just asking if anybody has a samsung galaxy s2 and what you think of it.

time has come to replace the old iphone 3g.

the main contenders are the galaxy s2 or an iphone 4,although i tend to like all things apple i do like the look of the samsung.

Dad has this phone.

If you leap from the iPhone 3 to a Samsung galaxy, you'll be very disappointed. Even better, wait a couple of months for number 5?

Have it 1080 video is very good. Email is very good. Screen beats iphone due to size. Battery is better than iphone 4 but being a smart phone is still not great. Very thin and cases are cheap if bought from ebay. Upgradable memory over iphone and faster than iphone 4 as its not only dual core but faster per core as well.
Pretty reliable so far but the market is not as good as the apple one. Camera is a lot better than iphone for pics and video.
Not a bad phone but if you are not used to android it may take some transition time to adapt.

Good phone.
Bad battery.
Especially if you have wifi on.

I've just had a play with Dad's again and can't use it. It's harder to work than the iPhone.

The casing/build quality is very poor in comparison. It doesn't have that 'ohhh ahhh feel' the iPhone boasts.

You have to close each app/function on the phone otherwise it will run behind the scenes and drain your battery.

you do have to learn to work an android phone, but once you do there much better than iphones. I got an app called app killer, which i use to turn off apps running in the background. makes a big difference to the battery life.

the gadget show recently reviewed the galaxy s2 as the 'best smartphone currently available', thats good enough for me. Im planning to get one soon to replace my samsung galaxy europa.

andriod phones in general are much easier to get content onto and they have all the apps you'll ever need, many are free.

there is a decent deal currently available on the talkmobile network (uses vodaphone network) 12month contract, £30 per month, 400mins, 1000 texts, 1gb internet, phone costs £99

scroll down to bottom of list to see deal http://www.mobiles.co.uk/talk-mobile-samsung-i9100-galaxy-s.html might get it myself

My partner has one. Using JuiceDefender App (free) makes significant battery savings (and 3G data).

She's very impressed (and is pretty fussy over performance etc). I'm not sure if the speed makes a huge difference right now, but the screen is very nice.

I'm on HTC Desire HD, pretty pleased with that (also now using JuiceDefender app)

You must know something I don't  How do you know iPhone 5 is coming in a couple of months?

I very much doubt it.

The lady in the O2 shop told me they expected it in September? They have had a letter from Apple discussing the launch/stock levels?

She probably shouldn't have told me that but I'm a regular and she always deals with me.

Apple have too much comin out in tye next three months. Some new stuff and some updates. I doubt there will be one soon possibly later one in the year though. Also it being apple I'm sure that O2 worker will be soon fired for disclosing anything even if it's wrong. :sj:

I can confidently say no new iPhone will be released this year :)

No.

Apple have a lot of work with iOS 5 and OSX Lion, and have just released the white iPhone so will be flogging that as much as they can.

If they were to release a new iPhone it would have been announced at the iPhone keynote!

£10 says no new iPhone until 2012

So what you're saying is you can't factually say that Apple won't release the iPhone 5 later this year? Even with your direct line to Steve Jobbs?

What are you talking about? I don't know anything, I'm just guessing. What do you mean by "Direct Line"

And why do you keep misspelling his name?

Chaps... this thread was supposed to be for people to give their opinion of the Galaxy s2.

Why, oh why do people insist on turning everything phone or computer related into an Apple thread?

As for the Galaxy S2, I did look at it when I renewed my phone. Love the massive screen on it, but would ultimately still go for your other choice.

Well after having the Samsung galaxy s2 for a few days, thought I would give you a quick update of how the changeover from the iphone went.

No where near as daunting as I thought it would be ………….. the android is pretty cleaver beast.

A couple of minutes to familiarise myself with the basic controls i.e. what to swipe, pinch and tap how best to navigate the various screens etc. then start setting up the basics.

Thought I was going to have a devil of a job getting the contacts from the iphone as they are stored on the phone and not the sim card, however a quick sync with gmail and the android picked up all the contacts from there nice and simple.

Next set up the email, which again proved extremely simple to do and took about 30 seconds.
Bluetooth and wi-fi very easy to set up and paired with the hands free kit straight away.

Been using the phone for a couple of days and can’t fault it, certainly is quick .the voice commands are amazing.
Will try the camera and video capture soon.

Cant fault Android as an OS, I've tried most of them and find Android to be one of the best :)
