Mixing Desk Inputs - Stereo or Dual Mono?

For over 5 years I have stuck by the advice given by a sound engineer on a big corporate job.

Instead of sending the output from my soundcard to the Stereo channel on the mixing desk I send it into two mono channels and then pan them to the corresponding Left or Right speaker.

My new Mixing desk arrives in the morning and think it is time to question whether this was good advice?

Is there anything to be gained from using TWO individual unbalanced channels for Left and Right outputs or should I just go back to using the Stereo input on a single channel?

All the backing tracks I run are through a stereo input on the yamaha MG116CX. Works just fine for us.

Tbh no. Nothing is gained or lost by using ether of the ways. It's just down to the way you prefer it to be.

Why don't you try both methods and have a listen ?
I've heard this of that method too .
You may notice a difference - you may not , but if you don't try - you wont know for sure.

Thanks. Getting the A&H Zed 12fx. It has 6 mono and 3 stereo inputs - will try both to hear the difference.
