Karaoke - for 15 people

What would you use?

It a corporate for a team building exercise that I have tonight and I have been trying to cut the gear right down but for one reason or another I haven't much at all!

Using QSC K10s x 2
Denon MC6000
Studiomaster C3X
Shure PG58 radio mics x 2
Shure SM58 radio mic
Ultimax stand
2 x led pars
2 x 19" Screens
S&H booth

I was trying not to take the Ultimax or S&H, but the screens clamp on the Ultimax and the S&H goes round the front.

I have a DSB micro and Ultimax Microstand, but not frontage for the Ultimax and can't clamp the stands to the DSB for the screens.

What would you take out for a small event like this?

I feel that just because it's a small number of people the presentation should still be top notch.

I think that if you have it mate, flaunt it. Be impressive and the work will follow on. I know it's a bit of a pain sometimes taking lots of gear for a small crowd but do the number of attendees really make much of a difference with reference to the presentation?

3 Radio mics, 2 Mackies, Mackie DFX6, Lappy, 32 inch LCD on a wheeled stand. I'd work from the Ultimax deck stand 'side saddle' (to coin a phrase) But only if the evening was karaoke only, if it's disco + karaoke then that's a different kettle of fish.

you absolutely right not to compromise on presentation just because of the low numbers,you still need to give the same level of service for 1 or 101.
also the potential is there for the 15 people to book your services at some point in the future.

now to the original question,i have tried to slim things down for smaller gigs,but ended up taking more.how does that work?

It will, but that means carrying more gear. The Micromax isn't on wheels and I'd have to make the DSB. I also need the 4 foot Ultimax to put the screens on.

If I was using the Micromax it would be side saddle as Mark has suggested and then there wouldn't be enough room for the screens!

I wouldnt compromise on presentation for sure. But you still might be able to cut down on equipment.

Couldn't you use the laptop you use for karaoke if you use one to run the music as well? or either that take both the laptops and plug them both into that studiomaster mixer that way you lose the mc6000

I do use the laptop for music and karaoke with VDJ.

I could lose the MC6000 and use just the Studiomaster, but then I'd have to take the radio mic out of the case as it's in the bottom installed etc.

Good point about the Vesa stands though John - have you a picture of this in action or a link? It might be a good thing to have in case I don't want to take the Ultimax with me.

I can and I have got 2 spare sets of castors too but just haven't put them on. It still leaves me the problem of no frontage without using the DSB and where to put the screens.

They attach to small upright pole which clamp onto the Ultimax stand.

I havent got any pictures of that method in action because ive never tried it but my theory is if the stand will normally take a speaker that weighs over 15kg it should be fine with a small monitor providing you open the legs out a bit to give it some stabilility

If you have a vesa bracket or two which im assuming you have to mount the monitors onto a pole normally? you should be able to just take the bracket off and put into a speaker stand and then tighten it up securely onto the pole.

Not really - the idea was to go side saddle, so the monitors would be to the side and not really in the right place. With the 4 footer, there is more room to put them.

Well the booking went well - only 15 people of various nationalities and they sang for 2 hours and I could have done another 2 hours!

Great fun and no screaming and shouting either!

If I has stands for the monitors, I would use the DSB micro or Ultimax Micromax and it would be even smaller!
