View Full Version : Requested - Shake Ya Ass

On Saturday night I'm playing a gig where I've been given a pretty good playlist, mostly made up of the usual party classics plus a few oddities from the late 90's and this little Gem:
Shake Ya Ass - Mystikal
Other than the use of profane language throughout the track, I have a bit of an issue with the opening line:
"I came here with my D**k in my hand, don't make me put my foot in your ass, be cool"
I'm planning on making my customer aware of this when I arrive, but as a general question Would you play this track to a mixed age (25 through to 70) audience?

Definitely - It's been pre-requested.
It's a good track. I've recently played ODB- Got your money at a Wedding. Now that's a filthy track :)
As long as there are NO minors around - I'm happy playing explicit pre requests.

There's a censored version - "shake it fast". You could play that, if you can get hold of it.
"I came here with the mic in my hand" :)

Depends on how I viewed the gig I was doing really.
I once played billionaire at a teen event but because I knew when the swearing came in I just flicked over the input source and back to blank out the offending word.

I bet your audience sung back the expletive even louder ;) ;)

If the customer has requested it, announce that it is a special request before you play it.

Doubt I'd risk it for a 25-70 crowd, I'd go with UKDJ's version, class tune though ! Along with....

Quick update on this one as the Gig was on Sat...
The night went Cheese anyway so this wouldn't have fit into the set if I had played it. No drama :D

You could have always done a Taxi announcement over the offending word Neil :sj:

Would I have played it?
Not for that age group. It tends to be the older ones who take the most offence at bad language (I think the younger kids are growing up getting used to it).
Had a similar situation on Saturday night with a guest requesting Where Them Girls At. I don't have a radio-edit of that one and there were a good few "older" guests so I decided against it. She asked if I could play Give Me Everything, instead, which is on my regular playlist anyway and one of my top tracks for 2011. Result!!!

My policy is clean versions only. Nothing else. No need for it and if it upsets one person, that's one too many for me and indeed, the hotel management.

That'd rule out anything by Nicki Minaj then :D
I've got a week of end of year disco's this week - so I'm going to be saying No to a lot of requests since the next Now with all of the Radio edit's isn't out yet :o

I make my own edits...just reverse flip the offending few milliseconds or overlay a effect sample....

Is it just me that thinks that Nicki Minaj is total rubbish!! The beats are all over the place so you can't dance to it and I have no idea what she is on about

I do the same if it is really blatant like Jessie j
