Giraffe Stands & spares - in administration?

I've got a 3yr old 4ft Deck stand made by Giraffe which is now getting a little bit wobbly, so I've gone looking for spares (specifically the two piece vertical poles which seem to be spreading a little, and the cross bars which are opening up, allowing the stand to lean).

But, it would appear that Giraffe have gone under?

Does anyone know where I might be able to get any spares, or failing that, is there anyone (relatively) local who is handy with a welder and can get their hands on some spare 25 x 75mm steel box section (I've got an idea for a mod?) I don't really want to shell out on a new stand right now (having just paid out for the RCF's), so I need to find a way to make my current one a bit better so it'll last for the occasional gig I'll be doing over the next 6-12months.

P.S. On a separate note - I'm hoping with Giraffe in demise, that there is still a good alternative product to Ultimax for those who don't want to pay big bucks (I don't consider the offerings I've seem from Rhino and Prolight with the 25mm uprights workable!)

Giraffe have been out of business for a little while now. They haven't manufactured their own stands for some time and purchased through a commpany in Poland called Athletic.

When Giraffe stopped dealing with them, I actually pushed Lamba (who distribute KAM, Vocopro & laserworld) in the right direction and what you now see on the market as either KAM Stands and recently changed to Skeleton Stands is actually the same products from Poland.

As it happens some of ADJ's stands - in particular the 4ft disco stand - is also from the same factory. So the products are still available - but because they are only at the budget end of the market there usually aren't any spares available I'm afraid. Although for the cost of only £99 you could have a new one.

I don't remember the size of the wingnut, but Screwfix is always a good start.

Hi Julian - I used to have the giraffe stand - I upgraded to ultimax as one of the screwthreads on the side of the stand went a bit wonky - but everything else was fine.

Anyway, I digress, I think all the parts are bundled in the shed. When I get back home later I'll have a look just to make sure the missus hasn't slung anything. The upright poles should be there - you can have them for nowt, just for the price of P&P if I still have them.

Julian, these are the giraffe poles I have laying around - They are 1 piece poles and are 104cm/41" long with the tightner attached to the bottom

I noticed when setting my stand up last week one of the nuts have slipped thier thread. Not sure if it's the nut or the thread though. I think mine is either a Kam or girraffe, the fixing I mean is circled in the pic below. Can I get a replacement ?

I noticed last night that Ultimax do a pack of Knurled knobs (http://www.ultimax1.com/home/details/162/25/ultimax-spare-parts/dj-stand-spares/complete-knob-pack-for-dj-stands-8-large,-2-small.html) for their stands which could fit the Giraffe stands too, or if you Google "Knurled Knob" you get sites like this one (http://www.e-boutet.com/124/Knurled-Knobs/Knob-knurled-in-duroplast-brass-through-insert-M4-to-M10.html) and this one (http://www.bpfittings.co.uk/pc/Round-Knurled-Handwheels-M10-c3934.htm) which also might do the job?

It might also be worth having a Google for "Knurled Handwheel" as definitely seems that there are retailers out there for these items.

I was going to ask if anyone knew of a supplier for the plastic feet as well (as at the moment mine is sat on the bolt heads on two corners), but that site above (bpfittings) seems to supply them as well (http://www.bpfittings.co.uk/pc/M8-Threaded-Tilt-Feet-Angled-Glides-with-Hex-c10432.htm) (assuming the thread is M8, which I haven't checked).

Don't take this as gospel, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the Giraffe uses smaller threads than M10. If that is the case, then the Ultimax knobs won't fit.

Other than that, the second site you linked to looks very promising. The costs there are on a par with mere wingnuts, rather than ten times the cost!:eek: :eek: :D :D

Latest little update on this one... Looking at the threads on the knobs, I'd say they were M6.

On my foot issue, I've found an interesting little solution. A while ago we bought a whole load of childrens furniture from Ikea which comes with grey flat feet, and we bought the taller versions of these, making the original supplied ones redundant. Guess what? They have an M8 threaded bolt, making them ideal for the Giraffe stand!

So my original feet (note the broken plastic bits):

I've also done a bit of a bodge job on the wobbly frame issue by drilling a 6mm hole through the back crossbars in the base and bolting a panel to it with M6 bolts which now stops it rocking from side to side (as it keeps the ends of the two horizontal bars parallel) while not adding significantly to the amount of kit I have to carry or the setup time. The left over panel also made a great lower shelf :D

I've now also found a friend with a MIG welder so I might replace the panel with a pair of 20mm x 40mm box sections in time if the panel gets on my nerves.

I'm now just debating what to do with the uprights - I've also found local suppliers of 25mm x 2m Steel stock (with a 2.5mm wall - a massive improvement on the current 1mm thick wall on the two piece uprights) for very reasonable money, and a local guy who'll powder coat them (or I have the option of going for brushed stainless!!) So I'm tempted to replace the two piece uprights with a new single piece (I've checked, a 2m pole will fit in the car) or in the interim, drill through the pole sections at the joint between the two pieces and pop rivet them to stop them wobbling!

Longer term, I have my eye on a DSB Pro :D
