I've just been sent a pile of spam from Disco and Karaoke net, I assume the addresses have been harvested from here!To be honest I'd rather stick pins in my eyes! Bloody cheek!

I recieved it too. I've learned to live with spam but I prefer when there's an opt out option on unsolicited mail, so I can be removed from future mail outs.
I've replied to their email and asked them to remove me from there mailing list.

Another forum which is harvesting emails from ours.

As they're so keen to have us, perhaps we should join and liven it up a bit?

It is rumoured that if you do that, it only makes it worse as they now know your email account is active :(

I am just disappointed that people do things in such an underhand and devious way.
It would have been nice if the people involved had the decency and courtesy to be open about such things..... after all, when the forum was launched, we had no problem with them publicising the fact openly on this forum.
...Yet another example of pettiness and backstabbing in the industry. Until people realise that unless we work together rather than working so hard to create divisions, then the whole industry will suffer.

Would agree no end. I have three email addresses - two personal and one for the business and I got the same stupid email saying "blah..blah..come to our forum, it's better than the one you are using at the moment". Yeah right.
For the record, I got a PM through (when I posted a thread about how long it takes a sponsored listing to go through) saying "I have just sent a payment through on this forum and it took minutes to be registered, why don't you have a look." Blatantly from the owner/co-owner and the only reason they can do it faster is because there is nobody on their forum!

If it's indeed true that people are being spammed and emails are being harvested then I see no reason why the "offenders" should be allowed to retain membership here.

Because if someone else had used this tactic under the previous regime, we would never of heard the end of it! I think its referred to as hypocrisy!

Well that was fairly pointless as you're already a member on the forum concerned :teeth: You'd think they'd check their members list before sending out the spam, it wouldn't take that long

Of course they are, as well as being professional.
However if someone was harvesting email addresses and Emailing new members about another forum, that wouldn't necessarily be fair and polite now would it?
I wonder what Mr Maddock would say about that if someone was doing it here while he was an admin?

It's a log-in I use on several forums. No secret alias & a lot of them I use the same avatar & when you consider that our web address is in most of my signatures on said sites, it hardly takes a rocket scientist to work it out.
I had a valid point, what is the point of e-mailing a existing member of you forum to tell them about your forum? How long would it take to check your members list?
