DA1000 Amp....smoking! Now with pic!

Not very often the passive PA comes out but as it's going on dry hire over the weekend thought it best to give it a test out to make sure all is well......

One of these amps W Audio D1000

Set everything up switched on amp loud buzzing noise through speakers, limit light on, protect light on, oh and smoke coming out the back :eek: :eek:

Having used active for ages now I'm taking it that this amp is now a non amp in fact it's extinct?

Not tried anything mate to be honest, tend to leave things alone that I don't know about :D

I'll take it down to the repair shop tomorrow ;)

Didn't want to turn it back on after the smoke...bit of an off put waiting for it to burst into flames and burn my house down :D

all chinese amps are powered by smoke , as soon as you allow it to escape thats it im afraid! Landfill!!!

Did it DC your louspeakers as well just for its Swansong?

Faulty component obviously --down the DJ repair shop asap.

Well I've had a look inside and it's as clean as clean can be fans work fine etc. The amp has probably only been used 3 times as I went active shortly after buying this if I remember rightly from the NADJ show at the motorcycle museum whatever year that was :eek:

But I couldn't resist plugging it in to see where the smoke was coming from :eek: and I found the culprit :D

So with a bit of luck it's just a case of changing that bit and we'll be up & running again ;)

Exactly what I thought :D :D

I marked up with black pen before putting it back together. Off to the repair shop tomorrow then. Don't think I'll get it back same day though :(

Should be about a 20min job Paul quick unsolder of the old one and resolder the new one (if they have them in store) lol

Usually it's dehydration. The electrolyte in the Capacitors dries up over time if the cans aren't sealed properly (i.e. cheap components) and they pop.

Far as I know Darren its a consumer who has rights and I dont see why this makes a difference ( but I havent asked yet so sounds like another job tomorrow;) )

I assumed a business was a consumer as well as an individual, the guide notes dont talk about an individual as opposed to a business.

I did report business to business transactions were excluded from the distance selling regs on the net.

Well I took it down to my local repairer and told him the findings of the investigation that "we" as a forum ;) thought it was a capacitor and therefore a "Quick fix".

Of course living in the land that time forgot I had failed to work into the equation that it's a Wednesday and therefore early closing if any opening at all today :eek:

The guy in the shop did the "mechanics" intake of breath and said he'd look at it tomorrow but it'll more than just that as it must have gone for a reason. He then hurried me out the shop as he had his kid to pick up from school :eek:

So after calling my other tech support helpline (Jon that works with Ben) I think we've come to the conclusion that it needs to be sold as "spares or repairs" :(

The amp was needed for this weekend for a hire job but I've managed to hire in a pair of Mackies for that job so at least everything is covered for my clients.

Back to the above quote, if you buy as a business (rather than consumer) you are assumed to be buying in the knowledge of what you are buying. You still are covered by 'dead on arrival' and failure within the first few days etc, as you can argue that the product was supplied in a broken state, but extended guarantees and such like are worthless.
