Grrrr Brides.........

Not many things really really annoy me (honestly!) - But after 2 weeks of trying to chase todays Bride & Groom up for their Event Form (I didn't even know whether or not I was playing their first dance, or whether the band who are there with me tonight are doing it, let alone what it may be).

I recieve a text this morning.

"Ooops forgot to send that form, sorry here's the music we would like played. Oh and you are playing our first dance"

Contrast that with mine today. Been sweetness and light from day one, gave me a forty song plalylist, and was astounded and impressed when I said I had all but five already!

Simon, have you considered that it may be your interpersonal skills that are the problem? You're obviously not dealing with them correctly. :p :D :D :D :D

Have a good 'un mate, I'm setting off for mine in a short while, immense marquee, three separate rigs needed perhaps. Live act for ceremony, background for meal and speeches, and Disco for evening. Versatility, that's the key. :D :D

As you know, I have had pretty much the same problem with my little soap opera in the MDD Supporters Section with my ongoing thread regarding tonight's wedding gig.

The Bride is an absolute pain in the proverbial and that's being nice. I received a list of requests last night from her via email that simply said "Can you play these?". Talk about leaving stuff until the last moment. It's not a problem as I have all the requests but it was so tempted to reply with Angela's suggestion. I simply said "No problem" and that was it.

Their first dance is 'A Moment Like This' by Leona Lewis.

I have had a similar experience,for tonights wedding also.They finally sent me an email on thursday with all theyre song requests.The bride likes her indie rock and the groom old school 90s rave classics,luckily enough i have about 90% of the listed songs.

It is very frustrating.I asked them last saturday what was the first dance,and was told they are far to busy to be thinking about the dj and music for the wedding.

I have had some awkward ones in the past, but that is just rubbish. I would have said something about that. That is just disrespectful and she may as well have said 'Your just the DJ, just play music will you!'.

Worst one I had was a mother in law organising it - called me seven times to go over things. Got my only complain ever after that gig. It was an agency job and the agency owner was there and there was nothing at all wrong with the job. It was the guests that were rubbish.

Thats just the way the couple treated everyone at the hotel,I spoke to the manager at the end of the night,and he told me that they were extremly difficult people to deal with.one minute they were friendly speaking to you nicely.the next it was rude,or being ignored.

The word to describe them starts with a T and I would have got paid and then played nothing but rubbish (and I have done too). If you are going to get slated anyway you may as well make sure they get what they deserve. I am not into rude people who feel they are above working staff who are trying their best to make a nice day for them. We are all just trying to make a living, even the dishwashing folks. I hate that so much.

Every single guest at one my gigs is a potential future client, so I'm out to impress every last one of them, irregardless of what I may or may not think of the client. I've had some right bridezillas in my time, but I provide the same high standard to them as well as I do the nicer ones. I try not to make judgement, especially on what can be a very stressful day for some Brides & Grooms. The more they stress the easier I try to make things for them.

We're in a service industry which deals with the public, and without doubt there will be some people that we may not take to on a personal level. When and if that situation arises we still have to retain our standards and provide the same high level of service we would anyone else. Surely?

I had a very carefully selected playlist on Saturday night, as the Groom was (as he told me at least half a dozen times)"really into my music" Despite the audience being predominantly over 40, I had a playlist of mainly current dance-orientated stuff, which was interspersed with a few "songs for the girls" Girls Aloud, Kylie etc, but was classic cheese free. Had a few requests which I had to field carefully, and had a couple of occasions where I had to say no, which ended up with the guest doing the "I'll get the B&G to tell you then" routine, but every time I was right, and the groom told them no as well. I was also very lucky to have the Groom's input every couple of records trying to tell me what to play next, until I got fed up and explained that I had actually done a few of these before, and knew what I was doing.The floor was pretty busy, but If he had left it to me, we would have had a lot more of the oldies dancing, but he got what HE wanted, and was happy enough.

Ah yes, but don't forget that as a DJ, your knowledge only extends as far as being able to press "Play".;) Members of the public, with in their opinion a full complement of brain cells, always know what's best.
