Good morning to you all on this fine Sunday

I have a nice little sequence that i mix about which includes

The Contours - Do you love me
Aretha Franklin - Think (Blues Brothers Album Version - really funky)
Wilson Picket - Land of 1000 dances
Arthur Conley - Sweet Soul Music
and Shake a Tail Feather.

Nice little sequence whichever way you play it, but I would like to have a couple of additional tracks to slot in there which are in keeping with it.

Beatles - Twist and Shout should fit, but I don't have it  and its not available to download unless you use I Tunes who are :muppet: - Guess thats me on Amazon after I finishing typing here. Can't believe I don't have that what a :muppet:

Anyway a few more tracks to shuffle around that sequence would be nice. Ideas from the pro's please (tried friends and family and you realise why many more people don't DJ)

Many thanks

Sam & Dave - Soul Man
Otis Redding - Love Man

Soul man is a great shout, but I tend to use the Blues Brothers version and it starts to turn into too many tracks from one album (or is that just me reading too deep into it - would a crowd really notice if they were split by other tracks), but what an album.

Love man is also a good call and I do use that from time to time.

Sam Cooke = Twisting the night away

Isley Brothers / Otis Day & the Knights = Shout

Good calls - Cheers Steve.

Jackie Wilson is my bridge exit from the first dance section at most weddings. It can then lead onto that afore mentioned sequence or more often than not we have first dances timed before the buffet so it goes First Dance - Michael Buble, Everything (gets family and friends to join bride and groom. Perfect song for all ages and gives grandparents and older relatives the chance to share that moment rather than going off at 1million miles an hour), then Jackie Wilson to lift the tempo a wee bit and then generally one or two other tracks and buffet time. Works well for us. So its a great suggestion, but I have generally fired that shot earlier on.

James Brown I have never managed to get to work at a do and it sits in that 'should I risk it category' and tends to get passed over. I will give it another chance.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far and I think with what has been provided already I have enough to extend that to a 7 or 8 trak sequence, which is just about right before bridging out and rolling the dance floor.

Chubby Checker = The twist ?

I've occasionally come out of a set like the above with a double whammy of
The Kingsmen = Louie Louie (Keeping the National Lampoon's Animal House connection with Shout) & the Trashmen = Surfin Bird.

You can usually tell if this will work by whether or not they do the beetle during Shout

What they all said - plus I get a good reaction to Sam The Sham's 'Woolly Bully' at most gigs, and The Small Faces 'Sha La La La Lee' will take you into a more 60's guitar band direction.

I struggle with this flavour too a little, I do play most of the ones listed by you and the lads though, however, The Small Faces - Sha La La La Lee, The Kingsmen, Louie Louie and Heatwave by Martha and the Vandellas are ones I don't play and will be adding !

I'll be keeping an eye on what the more experienced lads post for this ! :D

Stevie Wonder - Sir Duke or Even Jackson 5 - I Want You Back could be placed in between those numbers.

Can't see Sir Duke in the middle of that working to be honest - I Want You Back would be good to come out of that little set though.

Agreed, its not a sir duke moment. My little set has a lot of energy it to it and Sir Duke is more funky than energy, if you get my drift. Brilliant tune though.

Some really good thoughts coming out of this and very grateful. I have had great success time and time again with my little sequence, but its a shame to pull out of it when it is going down well, so expansion it is.

Another great forum response.

I have played Sir Duke around the same time as "think" many times. But you're both right, in with the rest of the tracks listed it doesn't flow.

Proud Mary is a stupendously superb track, but without working through the slow start it is out of context and the slow start kills it mid set.

I actually use The Contours to take it into more rock n roll'y type stuff...

The Contours - Do You Love me
Chris Montez - Lets dance (reloop the first 8 bars and it beat mixes well too)
Chubby Checker - Lets Twist Again

Etc etc....

By the way, you can get most of the Beatles tracks through Mastermix's download site. If you can bear to use it :D
