Had an eventful Saturday night/Sunday morning…

Firstly worked with an awful band that emptied the room and made me struggle to get everyone back in from outside once the band had finished torturing them. Finished at 1am and got packed up and away just after 2.30am as it was a big show and also I had to wait as the band had 2 Balingos and a car that were in the way.

40 miles from home and the fuel was well below a quarter as we were pulling off the car park, got a couple of miles and rounded a bend to a chap sitting smack in the middle of the road so had to brake and swerve round him…ABS works…lol. We pulled up and went back and talked him off the road but he was not all there…not drunk, dementure I think, anyway he wandered by the roadside aimlessly and then sat back in the middle of the road so I called the Police, next thing a lorry rounded the bend and took his head clean off, it was the most horrible thing, the Police arrived a few minutes later and kept us for statements for about 2 hours.

Set off again and the fuel light came on and then a few miles further the garage we normally use on that route was shut, we got 7 miles from home and the engine conked. Called the RAC and they said it would be up to 2 hours as they would have to go and get at least 15L of fuel as the pump wouldn’t kick in proper with any less and we would get air locks, next thing the Police arrived and said they would have to wait with us as we were on a duel carriageway so they put their strobes on and chatted with us till the RAC eventually arrived. Felt daft running out of fuel, its never happened before but the RAC chap said we were the 4th that night. Got home at 7.10am.

What a night!!!! :(

I can't help thinking about the poor lorry driver, too.... having to live with that can't be easy.

Wow, Andy, thats was an awful experience. My brother in law was involved in an accident earlier this year where a pedestrian died and although completely blameless he has stuggled to deal with it. Count yourself lucky that it wasn't you that hit him.

Jeez Andy that was close. Wonder why the guy was sat in the road ? Probably in his mind that was totally normal. Hope you ok & don't get delayed shock :)

Wish we could have done more really but at the time we didn't know if it was drugs or what and not sure how it might turn out. The lorry driver appeared very matter of fact about it all but its bound to hit him later. turned out that 2 19 year old girls in a car had also reported him wandering in the road a few minutes earlier.

Ouch, what a horrible evening.

Could you not persuade him to come off the road? I think you handled the situation well by calling the police ASAP.

Sounds horrible but you did all you could mate. It sounds like he was sat in the road waiting for the inevitable. There really wasn't much else you could have done and as long as you always remember that you at least tried to help then that should be ok.

A few years back I was on my way to DJ at a wedding. Luckily I left in plenty of time as the road I was supposed to go down was closed off due to an accident. The police were stopping all vechiles and telling them to find an alternative route (there wasn't really one). I could see the flashing lights up ahead and as I knew the area, I decided to go down another road, thinking that if I kept going I would end up on the other side of the accident and be able to continue to the wedding.

Unfortunately, I took a wrong turning and saw the horrific scenes. A motorcyclist and his passenger had collided with a small horse box and range rover. I won't describe what I saw but I had nightmares for ages. A policeman came running down the road towards me, swearing his head off and telling me to go. I explained the situation and he wouldn't have any of it. I ended up getting to the wedding around 2 minutes before I was due to start, explained the situation and in the end I had a great gig but it was always on my mind.

It's horrible what happened mate and again you did eveything you could have done,

there was a similar incident involving a good friend of mine who is a taxi driver who was taking two girls home to Derby down the a38 and a young lad (drugs and drink) walked direct into oncoming traffic to which due to it being pitch black (earlly hours) my mate didnt see him till the last second and exactly the same happened, decap but the body actually went threw the windscreen without the head and ended up in the car.

He has only just got back to driving after 8months of counseling.

Just hope everything for you is ok and it does not affect yourself mate, it might be worth having a word with a pro just to chat through what happened as Craig (my mate) ignored it and it made him worse etc
