Karaoke at Weddings - Is this a new trend?

I did my first Wedding with Karaoke last night... I have two more to do at Weddings next month.

Is this a new trend?

How many of you have bookings to do Karaoke at Weddings?

I'm doing a wedding with karaoke this Saturday. It does seem to be more popular, I'm sure there will be people that shudder at the thought and say it's wrong. But at the end of the day if the bride and groom want this and are prepared to pay I'm not going to turn it down.

done it a few times, but not often. no current wedding bookings include karaoke for me

I have a CP booked for November where they have specifically requested Karaoke, but as a general rule I tend to discourage it at weddings.
Reason being that the B & G are the 'stars of the day' and it makes it all too easy for attention-seekers (and there are always one or more at weddings ;) ) to hijack the occasion. :)

exactly. I think it may suit certain venues or crowds but I am not doing it.

i had a girl pleading for the mic last week at a nice venue.
I said no way as they cost £150, but more to the point it will probably be crap.

I like how you have cleverly used a projector for the lyrics on that wall rather than a monitor :) Looks really good and the whole audience can see them.

Same here, I would say 1 in 3 wedding bookings are now asking for Karaoke as well.
Like quite a few on here I am not keen but if the customer wants, the customer gets....

One maybe two a year if I'm lucky. At the last one they accidentally broke a telly so it was a short night anyway.

I will do karaoke wedding if requested as I see it as my professional duty to give the customer exactly what they want....

BUT.....

I admit I am not comfortable doing them as I find the best and most memorable wedding gigs (both for myself and the B&G) have a sort of "flow" to them. I find it extremely challenging to maintain a flow whilst incorporating karaoke into the gig.

Like I say though, I don't let that put me off doing them.

Any other thoughts on this?

I'm not keen on that idea at all.

It takes the spotlight away from the bride and groom, and directs it at someone else who is just one guest of many in attendance. I'm finding it hard to keep an open mind on this one!

I posted on here a few weeks back that I had seen an increase in Karaoke at weddings. I have done one already this year and I have 2 booked for next year.

Do I like doing it?

Not really but if it's something that can guarantee me a booking then I will do it. It's 4.5 hours out of my life that isn't that much of a problem really.
I think it's good to have it there because if someone phones up and I am free and they want Karaoke and I can't supply it, I have zilch chance of getting that job.
