I have a deckstand that has been used for about 5 years now on & off. Recently I've noticed the nuts slipping and stripping the threads on the bolts that hold the crossbars.

Only thing is I can't get the flipping things off ! Also I wouldn't be able to replace them with wingnuts or hex nuts as the threads would still be crossthreaded. Any suggestions ? (not buy a new stand - spent my Lotto winnings on a website !)

Best bet is either a mate with a mig welder and angle grinder, or a local engineering firm.

Looks like a Kam stand to me

Go to a hardware shop and buy four new 6mm bolts they need to be the width of the box section plus the length of the threaded pins

Cut of the top threads at the same length as the bottom pins( the black ones)
Measure between the two existing pins and drill a 6mm new hole above the treaded pin (making sure that both pins will locate in the slot of the cross bar)

What you are basically doing is the top pin the threaded one now becomes the bottom pin

You will also need four 6mm nuts or wing nuts and four penny washers only thing is you will have to carry a 10mm spanner for the 6mm nuts or contact Kam to see if they will send you four new thumb screws

I have a Kam stand and the top shelf was to high so I lowered it…. Hope this helps

Boomer you have hit the nail (or bolt !) on the head ! I have the ultimax skirt brackets and find my 00DJ shows about 6in above the skirt, so lowering it would be a good idea. Surely if I used wing nuts I wouldn't need a spanner ? I have seen replacement bits, so might have to look into it when I get some dead time.

The wings on the 6mm wing nuts are small so you may not get enough tension

It’s a bit of a pain but if you lower the top shelf you may also have to lower the bottom one as well if the two shelf’s are to close together you can lose stability in an ideal world try to retain the same distance
