A quick question for Powerbar users...

Hi Guys

I broke rule number one yesterday. I visited a disco supplier knowing that there was some spare cash lying around. I went up to DFB to exchange a damaged winch stand that had been delivered in the week...and left with a KAM Powerbar MkIII. Quite a lucky escape, really. After sitting in their lighting room (well, standing in the door way while another DJ had loads of stuff demonstrated) for an hour, I'd have had a couple of X-moves if they'd had them in stock!

Anyway, I took the Powerbar only to my gig last night, ran it sound to light, and have to say I loved it. I felt a bit naked to start with, but soon settled down.

So, onto my quick question...for those of you that use Powerbars only, what do you do for first dances? At the moment, I'm thing of buying an ADJ LED Sparkle or two. Thoughts?

Sorry mate, can't help you there. :( As an impoverished Yorkie, I could only afford an ugly cut price Teutonic copy. Thus I have to comfort myself with the fact that I can pick any colour and intensity I want by DMX control. :p :D :D :D :D

One of 2 things. Either keep it on one colour to match the colour scheme of the day or have it on the Slow fade through setting.

That's what I do too. Slow fade more often than not.

I'm also contemplating the Sparkles for that duty (and to give a bit of a mirror ball type effect without the kerfuffle).

The only other option I'm considering is the ADJ Jelly Dome, which offers a bit more than the a one trick pony of the the Sparkle. I know a few people here use Jelly Domes and are happy with the results.

Tell me! I bought a DSB the other week as well. Now all I need is a Shure mic and a couple of EFX's and my cloning will be complete!

That's what I do too. Slow fade more often than not.

Hmmmm...any vids? My worry, which I suspect is shared by most going out with just the bar for the first time, is the lack of movement. My initial reaction is that this would be amplified during a first dance on slow fade.

No videos of the slow fade from the dancefloor looking back. You can see the slow fade (looking forward to the dancefloor) at the start of the second video on my website. (http://www.elitedj.co.uk/videogallery.php) Not much help though probably, as the clip is slowed down.

We've all experienced the mental barrier thing with regards to the powerbar and lack of moving gobos etc. That'll soon pass though. :)

I'd be more worried about eggs and baskets! If the Parbar fails you're left with nothing. At least with a 'normal' lighting set-up you have several independent units which back each other up.

Do any single Parbar users carry a spare 'room filler' just in case? And if you're without an overhead how/where would you mount it in an emergency?

Tee hee. Apart from Shaun's failure, they seem quite reliable. Personally, I'm happier with the concept of fewer high power LED's, as opposed to more smaller ones, in the light of threads expressing dismay at banks of LED's dying.

My powerbar packed in not long after I got it. I just unscrewed 2 of the screw thingy's on top of the powebar and put a couple of InvincibLED's on there, and screwed them in place - sorted. I was up and running in a matter of minutes.

Indeed. Had I had the foresight to plan the purchase, rather than stumble into it haphazardly, then I may well have had a greater inclination toward our sausage-eating friends.
