Hi,
I have my first wedding dance coming up. I'm very organised but I can't remember what happens during the first dance. Do the b & g dance it ALL by themselves or do the parents etc join them and if so, is it myself who invites them onto the floor after a minute or so? Or, is this done on the second dance?
Please advise.

Hi Dolly,
It's better to ask the bride and groom if they prefer to do the whole first dance themselves or want to do only half of it. 90% of my brides want me to announce the next couple half way through.
Here's the usual run through for my first dances
Bride and Groom (half of 1st dance)
Best Man & Maid of Honour (Invite them onto the floor half way through first dance)
Parents of the Bride & Parents of the groom. (Start of second song)
Rest of guests (Half way through second song).
Just check with the bride exactly how she wants it though. I also inform the best man of the running order of dances just prior to them so he can inform the maid of honour, parents of the bride & groom etc what will happen and when they'll be called to the floor.
Good luck with your first Wedding Reception. :)

My answer would be that is the preference of the B & G, so perhaps ask them what they would like you to do as it could be either or.

Yes, the best man and maid of honour usually follow the bride and groom. However, it's all down to the Brides preference. Discuss with her the options and let her decide what order she would like. Traditionally though, it's the best man and maid of honour after the newlyweds

Also...
More and more these days there are other factors to consider with parents dances. Sometimes a parent may be deceased or divorced. ALways find out the details in advance such as names of the parents, whether there's anything you should know with regards to them being unable to participate in the parents dance. Better to have all the details and plan accordingly.
Hope it helps....

Good points Elite.
I would stay flexible on this-
Some people dont like the idea of being "forced" to dance.
Ask the B and G specifically what they want, lay out the options and traditions and let them choose.
Many I have attended where its not been anything to do with me have ended up with the B and G just dancing on the first one---its their moment!
After that general rush to the floor by everyone else!

Looks like the general consensus is "Check with the bride" :)
Let us know how you get on Dolly.
