Is there a viable alternative to EFX/Wizards?

I've had my EFX500s for about 3 years now and although I still like them, they are just soooooo heavy and big to be lugging around.

I do like having gobos but I am not 100% tied to that, however I do like the movement, the controllability and the coverage. I also like that they are effective without smoke.

Is there yet, a viable alternative to these units that offer a good compromise yet still cuts the mustard?

I havent witnessed the wizard experience first hand :-)

Well one Wizard extreme is very bright and I would be happy using just one for most smaller events.

Effective without smoke rules out LED I'm guessing? Unless you like the ADJ Mystics?

How about a pair of iRock 7b's. I replaced my EFX 600 (which I hated) for a pair of these. Very happy with the purchase.

I'm a fan of Barrel scanners ... good coverage ... but they are heavier than the EFX's :eek: :eek: :eek:

Guess i will need to wait, but it's either moving heads or dots at the moment and there doesn't seem to be much in between. I only really want 2 effects so it rules out scanners.

I think 2 x Moving Heads such as the Vizi Scan would be too minimal, not enough coverage and less suitable for weddings compared to the EFX.

Interesting, I moved from the 5'b's (which I guess are 250watt while the 7's are 150watt HID?) to the EFX600 and I'm much happier with them.

The 7b's are 250 watt MSD's.. The optics and brightness blow the efx out the water in my opinion. Separate colour and gobo wheels and interchangeable gobos made it an easy choice for me.
