Balanced output question.

I have always used phono outputs from my mixer to amplifier but I have recently had a brainstorm and finally decided to make use of the balanced outputs.

Does the use of the balanced outputs negate the need for the in-line filter as I have noticed a sizeable reduction in background noise and interference since I changed over from phono outputs WITH in-line filter?

Your views will be appreciated muchly :) .

I'd assume he means an ground loop isolator.

In my experience, i've only ever needed one in between the output from my old laptop's sound card to the mixer. Never between the mixer and amplifier.

If you experience ground loops over a balanced connector you could try putting a 2-channel/stereo DI box in line between the mixer and amp - Most have a 'ground lift' switch which may help elevate the issue.

A ground loop isolator is indeed the fellow.

I use a Denon HC4500 controller with my laptop which splits the sound into two channels so I would have needed 2 x Ground Loop Isolators (1 per channel). Inserting the isolator between the mixer and the amp meant that I only needed 1. Simples, cheaper and the end result was just as effective.

As I say, there is a noticeable absence of background interference using the balanced outputs - I was simply not aware of whether this was a known benefit of using balanced output.

Do you get a problematic hum if you don't insert the isolator ?

Don't you mean the 4500 splits your sound into 4 channels (deck 1 has two channels and deck 2 has two channels).

I'm not meaning to be pedantic but it helps if the facts are available.

I use balanced interconnects everywhere that I have the facility to do so , I've never used a ground loop isolator because I've been lucky enough not to have suffered from any grounding issues.
