Powder Coating Respray

Hi there,

I my speaker stands are looking somewhat tired, after many years of hard usage, but they still work fanastically and so I see little point in replacing them.

However they are very scractched and need a good lick of paint, so I was wondering how easy it is to have them resprayed with black powder coating. Is it something I can do myself?

Same applies with my speaker grills?

Don't know about powder coating yourself but I've sprayed several things with Halfords off the shelf sprays and got fairly decent results.

Mind you, by the time you've accounted for undercoat, colour and clearcoat on top, plus sandpaper, masks, etc - you'd probably just have been easier buying new stands!

As for your speaker grills once you get them sorted give the guys at http://hotcovers.co.uk/ a shout and get some protective covers. Great value & quick service - and they'll keep your speakers looking new too!

No. It needs baking in an oven, if I remember correctly. You need a specialist firm. I wouldn't recommend DIY spray coatings as a long term fix.

I'd just use Hammerite. Won't be pretty at close inspection, but only you'll know that really.

I can second this also, Smoothrite is your friend :)

Powder coating is heavy,bulky and plastically soft,the way to go is anodising,this is what they were done originally.

Smoothrite or hi temp matt black spray from RS or CPC, Used to use this stuff all the time in conferecing to touching up the black lighting units
