Fake Pioneer HDJ 1000's

After my headphones breaking on me last week I've been looking out for a new set and wanted some Pioneer HDJ1000's.

I got myself a pair of Pioneer HDJ 1000's from ebay that were advertised as brand new in box , unwanted present, only opened to check contents. From the photos they looked ok so I bid on them it went up to £100ish so I was out but then I got an email to say I'd won them due to cancelled bids and my winning bid was for £62 plus postage.

Anyway they arrived today and I thought they looked a bit plasticy, sound was ok but I did some more investigating and the glaring obvious give away was there's no stereo / mono switch on the left headphone.

Here's some pics below so if anyone does have some have a quick look and tell me what you think.

I've emailed the seller telling him I believe them to be fake and want a full refund. I've given him 24 hrs before opening a paypal dispute.

Just a quick look on Google images shows there is some difference between yours and the one on there :(

The black head band is longer on the google ones and the hindges look different :(

Personally I think even the proper ones look plasticy ;)

Ebay is rife with fake Pioneer, Shure and Sennheiser goods, if you check the eBay community forums you'll find guides on how to spot the fake ones from the good ones!

Rule of thumb, if it seems too good to be true (£60? What?!) Then it is. :(

Thanks Julian. The bidding had reached over £100 so it wasn't just me thinking they were the real mccoy but there were bid retractions

Indeed, there are some that advertise them as not genuine but these were definitely being sold as the real thing

Seller is saying they were given to them as a present and he wouldn't sell fake stuff so no refund :eek:

Just tell him you have his address and you'll be around to pick up your money and return his fake headphones to him, this seems to work a bit quicker in most cases. :)

I know and usually I'm ok these were sold as genuine and the pics didn't really give anything away.

Having used a pair of the Pro-DJ when a friend of mine needed a toilet break...the sound quality is crap when compaed to the HDJ's.

Spike, with respect your claim is nonsense and shouldn't be taken as good advice.

The chinese copies are normally quite good aesthetically. But inferior components are used and they are a million miles away from the original product.

Ive seen copies of headphones, earphones and mobile phones - all poor compared to the originals :(

I agree. The only way to get Pioneer quality is to buy Pioneer !

As an update this is now all sorted and I've been refunded the money paid into my Paypal account.
