What's the best LED Back Drop (Star Cloth)?

Now putting my show back together and just wondered what the best Led Back drop to get? and what the pit falls?

I have this one - Prolight.

I'm sure it's not the best, but it was the best £50 I ever spent on disco equipment :eek: :eek: :eek:

I use an NJD deckstand cloth and I can only assume the NJD version of the backdrop is better.

I've seen some other unknown brands of starcloths hanging in a local pub, best to shop around and find one that suits your budget.

The wool serge seems...hardier as well.
The shiny prolight ones I've seen often seem to have snags in them and don't hang as well IMO.
(The weight of the wool serge helps them drop nicely, it seems)

I agree with the comments about the "shell suit" material but lets face it, they are set up and used in the dark most of the time.

Could be the nylon one's I'd seen had been sloppily put up and badly folded/stored. Likely why there were ladders/pulled threads and masses of creases in 1or2 I've seem.

I just feel that the crease "falls out" of the wool better - just my perception tho'.

Most of the time. I specifically chose the wool as I shine a fair amount of par-can light back on the cloth (to light me), so wanted the pin-points of light behind me to be sharp/without even minor reflections. But then I'm a fussy beggar!

You're right tho' that most punters wouldn't tell the difference (maybe not even if they were side by side!)

I've seen it and I don't think it looks crap to be fair. I've seen the NJD one and yes, it's better but I wouldn't say Mike's one is crap.

They aren't stupid comments, they are my opinion. Anyone who says "It doesn't matter 'cos it's dark" obviously doesn't care, otherwise, why say it?

I have had both in different sizes and the Prolight ones are awful. They look cheap, don't hang very straight, look creased and the material is crap.

When you can get the NJD 3 x 2 for about £250, it's an easy choice.

Stop taking things so personally - you didn't make the cloth, oh and by the way, if I have an opinion on something, I will use it as that is what a forum is about.

Have to agree, the Prolight ones look like a screwed up bin bag and they look odd in bright or ambient light. I imagine you can get around this by tensioning the cloth but one that hangs flat is likely to be quicker to set up.

Back the thread though. Would it be worth asking whether the newer RGBY animated starcloths have a standard white or blue twinkle function or whether you could programme them to do it? IF you could, I reckon that would be a very versatile cloth. I have an older one and it doesn't have such a function. I always thought that was a an oversight because there are many occasions when you need something subtle.

I've got the NJD 2.1m x 1.2m starcloth and its great quality for the money.

The LED Driver also has an output so you can link multiple units together (deck skirt & backdrop for example) so they run the same pattern/brightness

I COMPLETELY agree that the prolight cloths can look nasty in daylight.

However, they don't look so ugly in a working environment.

I'm sure most would part with a measly 50 quid to own a prolight cloth? Lol

I'm not taking anything personally regarding the cloths. I'm just defensive with the assumption that someone couldn't care less about the presentation of his/her show because they occasionally use a prolight bin liner :D

I know you care about the presentation of your show Mike - I just hate it when people say things like "It's in the dark, so it doesn't matter" and as I said, if that was the case, it wouldn't matter about any of your gear would it, as most is used in the dark. :)

I use LED vision 3 x 2 curtain with the deckstand and i find them great..
Never had a problem,a little expensive but worth the extra cash..
