Speaker selection help

Hi all I plan to start moving from club djing to mobile (due to friend & family requests lol). I found a few speakers i'm thinking of getting and wondered if you guys have any thoughts on the following speakers:

Its for small venues, weddings, birthdays, etc.. max people prob 200 and budget for speakers is about £600.

Not wishing to turn this into a For Sale thread, you can do far worse than the W-Audio PSR15a (Active)

I have been using a pair of these for the last 2 years now for a lot of gigs and especially if you are used to club DJing the bass is decent for a set of 15" full Range. They also come with free protective covers.

The downside is that they are heavy at 30kg each

(I may have my pair for sale some time later in the year, but I would be making this recommendation regardless)

I have and use in one of my setups the Peavey Messenger Pro 15 mkII's, of which i am very happy with (also complemented with the Peavey Messenger Pro Sub mkII's at bigger venues).

Given the fact that the OP only joined the forum this month, do you think you could be a little less cryptic?

You won't go far wrong with a pair of the Peavey Pro's - good little speakers and will take a hammering on the road.

Have you considered the active speaker route?

The 2nd hand market is ripe with good quality active speakers - you could bag yourself a bargain!

i did consider active but thought going with passive would be cheaper to maintain

They are almost 1.5 - 2 times the budget though?

Budget about £600.00 only approx 30% more small amount more to pay when all things are considered.

With active cabs, the cost is balanced somewhat by the fact that there's no separate amp to but, adding at least £250 to your bill for even a budget one.

If you look back in the For Sale section, there were a pair of Warrior 15" actives for £300. ( Andy, if I mention them again, I'm going to send you a bill for the advertising. :D :D :D )

I use the 12"'s with subs. For smaller crowds/venues, and music that doesn't need immense amounts of bass, the fifteens will be absolutely fine on their own.

Bear in mind that they'll happily accept an amp delivering 500w RMS at 8ohms per channel. That's what I feed my twelves with.

I used the 15" Actives PSR15A for belting out a mixture of chart/dance/Rnb to crowds of up to and just over 100 people.

Get them up on stands obviously and well spread out where you can and you can cover more people.

I find with mobiles I am more than often asked to turn it down, can't think I have ever been asked to turn it up and if people want to dance/listen to the music loud they sit or come closer, so I am sure they will be fine.

Bit late, but as mentioned the Peavey Pro 15s can certainly take a hammering, over driving and a good kicking around on the road--cant break them--for small to medium events I love them.

You can pick up some really good bargains second hand--I bought a Pro 15 mk2 pair off Martin ( Vectis) excellent;)
