I had a free Friday this weekend so I went on a scouting mission to see if I could pick any ideas up from local KJs. Not a lot going on that I wasn't already aware of apart from the one KJ who takes a photograph of every singer from his mobile and the just puts his phone straight into his pocket - no fiddling about with the phone or sending the phot o or anything. Moments later the photo is up on the Karaoke screen.

I suspect it is sent via bluetooth but what puzzles me is the guy takes the snapshot and the drops his phone straight into his pocket. Is anyone else familiar with whatever app or piece of software that allows you to do this?

Jase.

Interesting. I'm not sure which model of phone he uses, but theoretically he could have a bluetooth link to the phone and is just grabbing the photos on his laptop that way?

You can do this with Iwall text-2-screen - all done via one of three ways:

Bluetooth
SMS/MMS
Email

I love it and it works well within VDJ as well.

Didn't you go and have a chat with him?

That was one of my intentions Charlie but alas friends I had been hoping to avoid happened to unexpectedly be in this particular establishment so I ended up moving on shortly afterwards. Not that I don't like them or anything, just that I was hoping to be able to focus on my scouting mission with as few distractions as possible and meeting up with these particular friends always ends up in a session.

How does the message or picture get from the phone to the pc and how does VDJ pick it up ? What do you need to use it ?

Depending on what kind of phone it is, If the phone's been paired with his laptop, chances are he simply browses the phone's file system and copies the files across that way.

Used to be able to do it on my old Nokia, don't know about other kinds.

But how would the PC grab the photo and display it live automatically ?

It can be done via bluetooth, sms or email - Iwall Pro supports all three - in VDJ it has a plugin which can overlay graphics, pictures, etc etc on the video output.

A cheap way of doing just the images it is to bluetooth the pics to your pc into the bluetooth folder and use the free slideshow plugin in VDJ to pick them up from the folder and display them onto the screen

Hope this helps.

Oh yes, PCDJ also has that plugin so will have a look at doing this. Cheers :beer1:
