Obviously there are more serious crimes, but they are for the attention of the police. We can do something about piracy on eBay, simply by reporting the offenders. There is generally no need for the police to get involved, meaning they can concentrate on the 'serious crimes' you mention.

Its a bit like the "people" who think its ok to steal photo images off other peoples sites and use them on there own....... Is that fair why should i go out to my gigs take decent photos for someone to come along steal them, not even bother changing the file name and use them on there site and pass them off as there own when they don't even use the same equipment. All without asking............. but then again you'd know all about that..... talk about kettle calling the pot black.

I havn't said what they are doing is right.... all i have said is whats the need for all you to go reporting him/her or who ever it is. End of the day its there own downfall when they get caught and at some point they will do.

i think that is true if your losing money cos people are getting there music illegally and your not getting any money for it then you have to find the cash from somewhere else so they will have to put the price up,

i see both parts of the argument, some pirates will do poor quality copies that look good etc, and will sell them slighly less than the main stores...

punters then are being ripped off, also sometimes the profits made by the pirates are used to support crime & terrorism.

But on the other hand...costs of legal music are still more than they should be, and i believe that if someone is a real music lover they may well d/load a track/album and test it out - if it does it for you then go out and buy the real deal, i have a friend who does that - he will see a album he fancy's, download it listen to it and if he feels that he enjoys it he will then go out and buy it

You may not agree with this point of view --but anyway--this is partly connected to royalties which is what illegal copying is undermining.

A friend of mine who bashes his drum kit in a band every Weekend and myself think that a lot of the the so called performers are overpaid and over rated and given an easy ride by the public--compared to your average hard working local band or disco--like most people on here I guess.

Example one--Lets say for example I fail to turn out one night because I lose my voice just before the gig due to an infection etc. Phone the client--sorry etc etc client gets very upset--function ruined--never use me again--make sure you dont get work around here again etc.

Then I read people like Tom Jones or Rod Stewart cancel a gig for same reason--what happens--huge amount of sympathy--oh dear what a shame
hope they get well soon etc. Ticket refund.

Eh? Doesnt quite add up--they get paid a fortune in a year in comparison to what we get paid--but if WE let someone down due to genuine problem hey--its all our fault, we are the worst thing since xxxxxxxxxxx

Probably highlights the fact we charge far too little for a reliable service.

I know some of these performers have a lot more talent than us--but it still doesnt change things.

Example two--probably like most people I like to think I put on a good show and entertain people. However unfortunately I cant send a copy of my last excellent gig to the hall and get them to play it and get cheques in the post--

NO--I have to turn up and prove every Saturday Night that I can still hack it--like you do.

Recording Artist receiving Royalties doesnt have to make an appearance or prove anything. Nor do the other people getting their "cut" like the record Companies, composers etc.

And then of course there is Robbie Williams--love him but--record company give him £80 million????

I would say thats a reason thats why CD costs are still very high--

I think record companies have also done this with people like Maria Carey and George Michael -huge sums of money wasted--very poor returns.

Better if they paid them AFTER they sold x million records I would say--just the way we all get paid really--on results.

Im not knocking it....... but it all goes back to my original point, they moan because piracy is costing them so much money but it isnt. Even with piracy they still earn more than enough, if they want to over spend through greed thats there problem, ITS NOT down to the fact that some people are downloading there tunes for free.

Sorry dont get the first bit--the second bit is easy---

The comparison is simple--IF you are good at your job of entertaining---then you can give people through your music and DJ skills a fantastic evening to remember.

The point I am making is that we are seriously undervalued and underestimated compared to others in the business especially as regards reliability and despite not being a professional singer you can still make someones evening memorable with your skill and experience.

Be honest, we do a gig for the bride or birthday bash, but most of the people are so rat arsed by the end of the night, thay dont give a **** about us, and they are normally only there cos they have to be, not because they want to be. I agree you cant DIRECTLY compare DJs with these talented guys--mind you if you had the massive sound systems, umpteen backing singers , top musicians that go with these guys---who knows? :teeth:

I also believe people who pay to go and see these " stars" have been known to get drunk :teeth: Including those throwing underwear!

Anyway--nuff said--I still think there is an underestimation of the services provided by your local DJ/ Entertainers relative to the big names.
