I was just searching through the Top 10 thread for a Classic R&B thread and couldn't find one. I've got a Wedding coming up where they've asked for a section so thought i'd come on here for some inspiration, but non to be found.
Is anyone pretty good with this genre - I've got an idea of the sort of tracks i.e. Nelly - Dilema, Hot in Herre, Lauryn Hill - Doo wop, Flo Rida - Low, R Kelly - Ignition etc, but not how to maybe structure a set and indeed what the perceived top 10 tracks would be?
Hi Simon, Not sure if this is any help but I tend to do an old skool rnb/hip hop bit when I play the bars

I looked at that thread Steve - It was the R&B (Modern) that threw me and the songs suggested in the first couple of posts weren't what I was wanting.

Given the tracks you listed as examples, I'd say it's exactly what you want. (although as with all of these threads, some folks interpretation of what the genre actually entails leaves a little to be desired)
Simon, please post what you come up with so that I can enhance my own list.
How old are the wedding couple, because some of the real youngers consider stuff I was playinging 3-4 years ago as old skool  :D

This is the R&B and Hip Hop I've put into a loose setlist at the moment. Doesn't mean I'm going to play every tune in this sequence, I've put them more or less in BPM order, had a play with a few and some of those next to each other mix quite nicely. Also i can get to the faster stuff quickly if needed and come out into some commercial dance quite easily.
I'm sure some purist will be along to trash it soon enough. If anyone has any additions that would fit in with the setlist below, please feel free to suggest.
