Mixer help

I have a numark cm200usb mixer which has served me well for the last 4 years but tonight while checking oevery thin out for saturday I found that on channel 2 when turning up the gain or any of the eq nobs past the half way point I get this dreadful howling from the speakers this happens with or with out an inut to the channel. All the other channels seem fine, any thoughts as to a fix would be good and is it possible that it will spread to the rest of the mixer?

Does it happen only when the audio source is connected and playing ?

Does it happen at all positions of the input selector ?

If you are using CD, try line, if using line try CD.

Do you leave everything permanently connected or do you connect the leads for every gig, if the latter it could be a broken socket on the mixer.

If you PFL that channel what do the VU meter show ?

Just an update to put this to bed, took the mixer apart and inspected the gubbins inside and found that the ribbon cable that conected the input to the board had rubbed itself raw on the case, anyway abit of tape and the mixer is good as new (fingers crossed). I also found the cable for the fader start was not conected (i always wondered why it never worked).
