Home made flight cases???

Morning All...

Just having a serious think about making some flight cases for myself, and just wondered for those of your guys out there who have done this, is is an easier cheaper option than buying one ready made. And can you get the same sturdyness???

Additionally the only material supply I can see find Adam Hall who seems rather pricey - are there any cheaper???

I make my own flightcases and luckily there is a flightcase manufacture company just 3m away that I get all fittings, ally angle, rails and rivetts from. Wood from B&Q. You need the right tools such as rivett gun, drill and various bits depending upon the size of rivetts and of course a saw to cut the wood not forgetting your rule. I use ply for cases as it is lighter and stronger than MDF.
I am measuring my Warlocks this week and buying all I need to make 2 cases. Wood will be finished with black paint as usual.

I normally find that is the case, and the pro stuff is normally finished off a lot neater.

99% of the time is cheaper to buy one than build. By the time you factor in the wood costs, all the parts that are needed to make it, your time, the sudden realisation you have made it wrong and not square so buy more wood it's cheaper to buy one!

I have got to agree that if you are not used to making flightases and do not have much time then it is cheaper to buy them. You really need a workbench as well. I have 'O' level woodwork and a sawbench, jigsaw, together with loads of other tools and I will make a case similar size and design to the Swan case for Martin Wizard (my warlocks are a copy basically) in around 3 hours. Fittings and rails will cost approx £30 including the ball corners hinges and springload handles. Wood 5 ply, would cost around £14 but I already have enough in stock from other builds.
