CD-R's

Hi All,

Just a quickie here I wondered do any of you use balnk cd-r's for recording music. I haven't done this in ages but want to burn some tracks together on to disks but I am struggling to work out which is the best and cheapest quality. Can anyone suggest a decent and cheap brand? It's hard to tell from just searching specifications and I think first hand experience is the best for this. I am looking at probably a spindle of 100 disks to keep me going. Only looking for recommendations from cd-r's that you have used already and can be burned and played back on most CD-ROM/players.

A spindle of CDs is a spindle of CDs IMO. But watch out if you want to burn 100 CDs buy 200 as there is a high failure rate with blank CDs. Due to cd drives not liking them and just poorly made! Just the way they are due to the high volume made.

I have used the Tesco brand CDR on many many occasions, and have had no issues with them bar the odd bad disc, say 2/3 out of a 100 :)

For blank cdrs i use Maxell. Blank DVD / BDR discs. Verbatim

Definately a case of you get what you pay for. I tend to always use branded discs and have very few coasters as a result.

Cheaper unbranded discs are cheaper for a reason !

The only issues I've had with Verbatim were the burner & not the disc.

I know this to be a fact as it stopped when I changed drives.

If possible, burn at a slower speed. Far less coasters using a low speed. Most software allows this.

Cheaper unbranded discs are cheaper for a reason !I disagree to an extent. You would think that, for music, the brand names such as Sony would be the best choice. However, I had Sony CD-Rs before and the top surface started to peel off with the heat, I could hardly believe it.

In saying that, that was a good few years ago now, but my point is that some of the cheaper brands can be just as good, if not better.

Thanks for the ideas I got some good starting points now. Haven't decided yet but I guess it's bit of pot luck really!

I tend to not use so many these days so when I do need them (usually for the AVI slideshows I make) I just use the ASDA branded ones and they're as good as any I've used in the past. Think I've had 1 failure in the last 50 or so I've done.

I dont tend to go for certain makes. I just buy good deals and when they are on offer.

I have used cd-r's from Lidl, Asda, HMV (many different brands) and now Tesco. Always recording at 2X I ususally find 2-3 faulty in every 100 otherwise no problems at all.

If I find any that Windows wont accept, I leave them on my desk and try them a few days later and they seem to work. Windows can be very picky with CDR's.
