Last minute bookings

I must have quoted on around 10 functions today all for weddings/functions in the next month or so.

What is going on?

I normally get a few, but this is mad! Why would people leave everything so late? I know people are going to say to save money, but getting a quote for a wedding for next Friday? :eek:

They sound quite surprised when you tell them your booked already.

If they phone me last minute hoping for a rescue they can jog on, they should have booked a professional in the first place! I DO NOT Rescue last minute bookings.

The agency rang me yesterday and asked if I was free on a date coming up soon. Wanted a duo or a band, but wouldn't pay the money. So we quote on an all day job from 3:00pm to 1:00am with three singing sets inlcuding a meal swing set.
She didn't go for it. When the agency pointed out she had left it quite late, she believed last minute booking was the best way to get a good price as people would want the work.
Interesting thought. We are now a 2 star appartment in Magaluf?

I thought you said that the amount of work you had was going down? Surely if that were the case, you'd be wanting to help out?

I have noticed a run on late bookings recently - sadly booked but it does show that currently people are leaving it late - also christmas bookings are later than usual - I'm not sure if companies are holding back but will wait and see.

I have had 3 wedding enquiries this week, all for within 2 months. 2 dates already booked and the enquiries direct from the contact box on my website seemed surprised.
Start of school again and I have had 5 enquiries for children's parties. Everyone asking how much and two nt saying where and one even telling me (for a 13th) they have no venure booked yet and no date in the month of October.
Wedding enquiries for next year are more numerous than they were last year but many are just wanting to know 'How much?'

Agree with above comments , in July I only had a few bookings for the rest of the year , now I am pushing to have a weekend off :eek: , still rather that way then nothing.

Been similar for me, a lot of short notice work coming in. I certainly won't turn it down as it has kept me very busy these last 2 months.

It was suggested by someone I know that a few people who put off gettign married this time last year due to recession concerns etc are getting married short notice to lower the risk of venues going bankrupt etc.

That kind of makes sense but whether it is true or not I cant comment. But the last few weeks I have had so many enquiries for the coming weekends that it was bordering on the suspicious.

i wonder if job security is a factor both our largest housing association and the city council have both had reviews ending around september time and somewhere else where a friend works are only giving out short term contracts so maybe people are holding off until they feel more a bit more secure at least if the worst happens by leaving some aspects until the last minute they hope to avoid losing all of there money.

Ive had my fair share of last minute enquiries\bookings over the last 2 months.I have found that more and more people seem to be leaving it later to book.They keep saying that they were not going to have a party,then change their mind.

i had a phonecall the other night for a wedding the next night. this was midweek and they wouldnt pay any more than £100

i train in rugby on that night and get paid £40 per training session. so if i took the gig then it would have been for £60. obviously i turned this down, i try to help out when i can but last minute for a wedding the next night and refusing to pay more than £100 is rediculous

I had a blank Sept Oct & Nov a couple of months ago and now its full.

I did panic then and started e-mailing agencies - I should not have bothered.
