I've got a new active sub and I was going to connect 2 x XLR from the Mixer and then 2 x XLR onto the tops.
I've noticed the mixer has a subwoofer/lighting jack.
My question is what are the advantages/disadvantages of using that instead?
Thanks

none really other than you can adjust the sub level from the mixer and the sub outs on the mixer are producing just the bass frequencies so if you had a sub with no crossover or were running a amp to a passive sub you wouldnt need to flick the high cut switch

though if your active speakers dont have a bass cut switch or ext sub setting running the sub from the sub out and the speakers from main you will only ever get full range from the tops.so you would need to go main out sub active speakers and set the switches on your sub to cut the bass of connect to the high out :)

So if I don't have
(1) a bass cut switch on my active speakers or
(2) An external sub setting
it's best to avoid the subwoofer jack?

id say so depends if you want to run your active speakers ful range i guess, if you want to cut the bass to them then yes if you dont have the bass cuts i my k10's have the ext sub setting and to confuse matters they want your to run mixer speakers then sub pain if you only have one sub
