Can anyone tell me what this means? It is the last bit that confuses me. "you are not purchasing an insurance product"

Full Members of the NADJ receive £10m Public Liability Insurance and Employers' Liability Insurance as a benefit of membership. Please note, you are not purchasing an insurance product, you are paying the membership fee for joining the NADJ. The insurance products you receive are a benefit of membership only.

Thanks :)

Also a DJ called me the other saying that a venue I have flagged on here asking me to sign an indemnity release form has been blacklisted by the NADJ as it in effect cancels your PLI. Can anyone divert me to this resource please as I want this checked out by them.

Speak to John Forbes. He's your man for all things NADJ. A top geezer to boot as well.

Here a link to his website http://www.johnforbes.net/

Hope this helps

Under FSA regulations unless an intermediary is FSA registered, they are not allowed to sell insurance products.

What the clause means is that you are not buying the product but are being given it for free as part of your membership therefore NADJ are not selling a regulated product and don't have to be FSA registered to provide it.

I will second that - Send John an Email or give him a ring - what he doesn't know he will find out. I 'think' I know the answer but prefer you get the exact facts from the correct people.

I worked in the insurance industry for 25 years and am CII (Chartered Institute of Insurance) qualified so I do have an idea of what I am talking about :)

And you cant hold them liable if there is a dispute because they did not sell you a product:daft: :daft: :daft: :daft:

Go figure that one.

Also yes--liability assumed under Contract is generally specifically excluded from PLI claims unless you were liable anyway irrespective of the form you sign.

We have said before--dont sign forms if it sounds like they are taking the ............

Blacklisting a venue eh--that sounds a bit heavy--legally speaking

Still, I suppose NADJ know what they are doing legally.;)

He certainly does, I only did 30 years myself specialising at one stage in Public Liability and associated covers for the Construction Industry and running rings round Architects and errr some Lawyers.

Theres plenty of Insurance expertise on here believe me-- although the specifics of some of the schemes on here will be known to particular individuals
who adminster them the fact is the basic principles of Insurance apply WHOEVER runs the scheme so Tonys comment is spot on--the answers will be the same.

So whats the difference in getting this insurance and getting dj guard for instance?

also is there a venue page for the one i described where they advise on places that make you sign these forms invalidating your PLI?

Not an NADJ member so can only say its cheaper probably than DJ Guard--I obviously have no idea what the T and Cs are so cant comment.

You dont need a guide to venues--just dont sign anything--

Common sense really and dont forget although you are protected by the Unfair Contract Terms Act you dont want some heavy lawyers on your case because you signed something---- BECAUSE you would have to hire Lawyers to get you out the mire---you might not be Insured for this--these guys dont come cheap.

The first paragraph of my PLI policy pretty much states that I should deny everything! (well, it states that I shouldn't accept liability for anything - sounds like the same thing to me - "Hey, you just dropped that light on my head!", "No I didn't!" !!!)
