I am booked to do a run of christmas parties for the second year running and the hotel would like some 'games'.... any good suggestions for a large 200+ mixed crowd? Thanking you in advance!:)

Assuming its made up of various parties on each table...maybe a table of nursery nurses, table from the local doctor's, couple of tables of firemen and so on then you can ask the hotel for a table plan and you can go round the room introducing each party and even better...If the hotel are doing a data capture or a raffle for their chosen charity, ask them if you can go round and collect in entries or selling raffle tickets. That way you can chat to them as you go and gather bits of info you can use later.

Forget which one but one of the DJ christmas CDs has a decent Christmas bits n pieces on it that you could do in-between the desserts and coffee and give a box of after dinner mints to the winning table.

Give each table a carrier bag of red crape, cotton wool, tape etc. and have them dress one of their table as Santa.

Loads of games you can do with the balloons and make it as adult as you can get away with.

Get a limbo set, you can go from less than £30 from www.alloutdoors.co.uk and upwards for metal sets, that always goes well at Christmas parties and you can bring it out at various functions throughout the year when you think they are up for it...used mine only this Sunday at a consultants v GPs charity cricket match/garden party, went down a storm with Soul Limbo but you can use Cuba, Hot Hot Hot and various others.

Smallest Thong competition is fun and you wouldn't believe how small some of them can be.

I wouldn't worry about it too much as usually Christmas parties are a breeze, its that time of year and folk are mostly up for a laugh and usually drink loads.

If you have 12/24 tables, a group singalong of 12 days of Christmas can be a good one, if a little old hat. Each table/s has a different day to sing and has to stand when they get their 'day'.

My Hotel brief at Xmas is similiar - I go on during deserts and (cheesy as it is) introduce groups ("Cheer if you're from British Gas!") and set tables off against each other - loudest cheers, best singalong, best mini-mexican wave... all proper "Butlins, 1984" but what that management want. It also costs them nothing extra. (Well, appart from me.)

Unless you're comfortable standing out front making an idiot of yourself - or the venue want something a touch classier - would something like Rock n roll bingo work? That would involve some expense for the hotel, however.

Yep, we've always done that and it works very well.

Must admit I have been doing the same for a long time.
It sets the atmosphere for the rest of the night.
I guess it depends on how the meals are done etc. I generally have a christmas playlist running and get out of the way as I don't like to stand there like a spare part whilst people are eating. I will pop back every now and then and check all is ok and introduce myself as they are finishing desserts.

I can't remember whether it was last year or the year before but at one of the parties there were 3 different banks within the party and I was told not to mention them because of the recession or whatever it was at the time that was going on with the banks because they were in the news a lot so I didn't do anything that night.

Yeah - you have to be cautious sometimes. One year we got a complaint from Inland Revenue because when we asked them to cheer for themselves all the other tables drowned them out with boos. :-/

You never know how a joke/interaction is going to go either: that's the risk.

2008 - introduced all 4 large groups, 4th being Aviva Trains... then said "Well Company a, b, c.... the coffee's done, it's 9pm, and it's time to PAAAARTYYYYY!! [Hold my nose] Apologies to group from Aviva, your party will be delayed for another thirty minutes...."

2010 - "So give us a big cheer if you're on the table from British...............Gas. One more time, a shout please from British................Gas. Sorry for the delay there but we are experiencing a high volume of shout-outs at the present time..."

Everyone laughed EXCEPT B.G. and a comment was added to their long long list of other (minor) complaints. Oops.

All you have to do in that case is use the organisers name. I had a party last year where there were two different sets of police and neither wanted to be mentioned, until they realised that the other one was there and then it was fine!

I agree. I just thought at the time that it was best not to do anything like I would usually do.
I just said something like "Good Evening Ladies & Gents. I hope you've enjoyed your meals...Now, whose up for a boogie?".
I had a few cheers and did the "Sorry, I can't hear you"...it gradually got louder and then I started with Black Eyed Peas and the dancefloor was busy within seconds.

I had a party from the local BMW garage last year and asked them if they had any samples for me. Thomson air crew were told to fasten their seat belts for the meal and I pointed out where the exits were (here and here). And a group of traffic wardens were thrown out (we did let them back in after a while - with a free bottle of wine)

I did a 999 night last year...Daren knows what they are, its when they are meant to be for the emergency services but in reality they open them up to organisations that are very loosly connected and the charges are all £9.99. Anyway we had some from the Custerdy Suite, some Firemen, Some Nurses, some Emergency Switchboard ops, some Paramedics/Ambulance folk and some Police and the police made a serious complaint against me because I announced them as Police.

Thing is they were there on my list as whatever Police station they were...I forget now, they were on the plan pinned on the door and the one in reception and there were several Police vehicles outside...and in any casee you can tell a mile off.

My GM dismissed the complaint but I got to see it and it was nasty and they complained about other stuff too.

Now if I get any dodgey ones like tax, traffic wardens or 2 supermarkets on the same night I talk to them when I go round with raffle tickets and collecting the data capture slips in. If they're unsure then the "lets here it from the Jones party works just as well"

Thanks for the response so far... I usually do table introductions, biggest cheer etc... but any more ideas for games?
