I just had a copy of the above drop through the door and it is tiny. Slightly bigger than a standard paperback book and about half as thick.
I looked under 'Discos-mobile' and there is 2 people advertising! One of those being a former member of this site..
To be fair, they have put all the rest of the listing in an A-Z in the back, but 2 advertisers?
A sign of the times?

I don't advertise in there and I don't think I've ever used it to find anything. There are more convenient and effective ways to advertise IMO
However an awful lot of people still use Yell.com up here. My website stats bear that out;)

Had a couple of calls this week from people using yellow pages

I wonder now people have left in sizeable numbers that having a listing in there becomes far more effective?

I doubt it very much to be honest. I think most people look online, either at websites, online directories or places like yell.com.
We got our new Thompson Local about a month ago and the first thing I thought was that they were copying the Yellow Pages in reducing the size of it. I had a quick look through it and noticed that I didn't even have a free listing anymore. Does it bother me? No.

It's 'Thomson' you plum :D
Paper directories are a dying breed, I sold advertising space in the BT Phonebook a few years back and even then they were cacking themselves in the renewal department due to amount of people just pulling out, left, right and centre.

Oops, yeah...sorry chaps. Just quickly having a look and replying to stuff on here before I go to see 2 girls about their party this weekend.

When I get anything like that through the door it just goes straight into the recycling box. I imagine most people do the same now as there are very few businesses and places you can't look up on the Internet.

Marvelous.
I had the Thomsons delivered a couple of weeks ago and I can honestly say within 90 seconds it was in the recycling bag.. I would have given back to the delivery girl but she had gone.

All the youngsters use phones to get the Internet and most other people use the Laptops and PC.
This all started seriously about 6 or 7yrs ago which was when we gave up the paper version of YP.
Everyone just switched to the net and frankly those who cannot afford or use a computer are in the wrong income bracket to do business with.

If I advertise with them I also get a free listing in yell.com
It works for me :)

I can't remember the last time I used a paper directory, it's so long ago, and the print's a bit small for my aging eyes these days.

But not all people who don't/can't use computers don't do so because they can't afford it. A guy I regularly chat to is in his 70s and is very wealthy after running a very successful chain of butcher shops. He told me he doesn't trust the internet and still uses Yellow Pages. He found me through YP a few years ago when I did his Golden Wedding anniversary which he wanted to organise himself (mind you, it did help that I was previously his postman and he knew me from that!).
Also, what about people with mobility disabilities who find using computers difficult but can get what they want through a book? Are we to assume that they don't deserve to be our clients because they can't find us online?
I still think there's a place for book-based advertising albeit in a quickly decreasing market. In fact, I think Neil has a point. The less people who advertise could well mean more enquiries for those that do. It's then up to those advertisers to convert enquiries in to bookings - that can be the tricky bit!!
