Creating Animated GIFs

Can anyone recommend a program for creating animated gifs?
Preferably easy to use and free ;)

I didn't know you could create GIFs in GIMP. You learn something new every day...

Yep, just create each 'frame' as a separate layer and them when you save as a gif, you'll get the choice to either merge layers or save as an animated gif. :)
