I don't see the need for it myself. if I'm in I answer the phone, so there's no need for any callers to be waiting. If I'm out it goes straight to answer-phone.

Still, that aside. I'd be intterested to hear the costs involved in such a venture.

I don't really know, which is why I was asking. I would have presumed that you would require a PPL and/or PRS as you are playing copyrighted music as part of your business. When playing music at a gig the venue hold the relevant license(s). When playing it at your home (in the guise of call waiting) I would presume there would be a requirement for reimbursement of royalties?

When playing music at a gig the venue hold the relevant license(s). When playing it at your home (in the guise of call waiting) I would presume there would be a requirement for reimbursement of royalties?

No No No, You've missed the point. When a numpty from Yorkshire calls, my caller I.D flags it up and I just let it go straight to answer-phone....which negates your argument. :D

I want to set up a custom music on hold for when telemarketers call me and I will then put them on hold. My song of choice......

Perhaps it's something you need to research further, to give yourself peace of mind if nothing else.

Pretty much all modern phone systems have an input for a music source for music on hold and many people just connect an iPOD or CD player blissfully unaware that they require the licences.

The systems generally also have an internal MOH option which will either be a comfort tone to let you know you havent been cut off, randomly generated electronic plinky plonky music like an 80's computer game, or somethign well out of copyright such as Greensleeves.

With modern digital technology, many companies now run promotional material to callers who are on hold advising of special offers etc which is less repetitive than Greensleeves and because it is their own property gets around the extortionate licencing fees.

I bought it off the official Orange Website......I know not of what happens to the Money after that.....Sorry.

It will appear as a £1 charge on my next monthly statement...plus a one off purchase fee of £1.50.

ANY music used in connection with any business needs to be licensed. Why do you think that any business premises need to have a licence just to have the radio playing in the background?

It is not incumbent upon Orange to advise you of the law relating to businesses as it differs from private individuals. (I'm also assuming you don't have the phone on a business contract here.)
