Acme iSolution iMove 50SR moving head

I'm looking for comments or even user reviews on the above moving heads.

They looked and felt ok (not plastic and hollow) at The BPM show and they've got most of the features that I'm after but... I don't know anything about the reliabilty or the brand. It'a probably just all those Looney Tunes cartoons of ACME products appearing to be great then letting Wylie Coyotte down big time.

Anyone got any thoughts or experience of these lights?

Acme is part of Prolight, who are one of the major names in lighting for mobile DJs.

They aren't high-end, and I have no experience of that particular range of lights, but Acme/Prolight in general we have always had very good experiences with. Actually, should be picking up a new laser of theirs in a couple of days. :)

Thank you for the quick reply. It's good to know that you've always had good experiences with Acme/Prolight generally. I've gotta say that in doing some of my research into replacement moving heads, Acme/Prolight have been very fast at replying to my questions.

The main things I've found out so far are:

Each of the two gobo wheels take different sized gobos - which is a shame as it means that I cant exchange gobos between wheels. I use alot of gobos for things like venue names, company logos etc and I'd have liked the option of putting them in either wheel. Its not a show stopper though.

The gobos are significantly easier to swap (on paper) than my current heads. Currently I've got to take out an entire gobo "bottletop" with cog teeth around the side, swap the gobo and replace the "bottletop" - which is stunningly awkward. In the iSolutions, the "bottletop" stays attached to the gobo wheel at all times.

When you say that they arn't high end, are you being kind in not using the words "low end" or do you consider them to be middle-market?

Do prolight/acme products end up being available under various different OEM guises eg: A bit like America Audio / Citronic / Stanton / Behringer tend to?

Can't comment on the iMove 50SR but my iSolution iShow 4's have been superb over the 5/6 years I've had 'em.

Great build, decent optics and never had an issue with them being run 6+ hours at a time.

Low to middle Market.

I use iSolution moving heads and can't fault them. They have most of the functionality of the higher end lights (high output, rotating replaceable gobos, prism, motorised focus etc). In the price bracket I really think they're hard to beat.

Thanks for all the replys (so far...?). I am feeling a but more confident about the Acme brand now - although I am thinking that we really should have to worry about reliabilty in pieces of kit costing £650 each - but of course, nothing can be 100%. I'm planning on flightcasing the 4 units, which should help.

Just to add: we've had much better luck over the years with Acme/Prolight than we've had with Martin and (in the day) Abstract.

Of course, that's not to say they are better... it's just to give you an idea.

100% reliability so far with all the acme/iSolutions products I have (and I have quite a few). Definitely gets the thumbs up from me. I even got rid of Martin products (EFX600's) and replaced them with a similar effect Acme product.

Thats ok though. I'm not going for X is better than Y or anything like that. I just wanted to be able to type the words "Acme iSolution iMove 50SR" without 20 replies all tripping the forums naughty word filters with negative comments.

By comparison, the Audio side of disco gear seems somewhat easier at making sure you're not buying a lemon, or buying what is known to be good or bad, well thats how it seems to me at least.

But with lighting, although I know my DMX's from my 4 channel bulgins (those were the days), and my LEDs from my discharge (the doctor said that would have cleared up by now) - I dont know what brands are good'uns or bad'uns, and price isnt always the right guide.
