Mc6000 setup question

I am currently looking at downscaling my equipment, recently gone down the active route so my 2 back breaking amps i used to use are surplus. My current playout is a macbook pro, via a beringer 1622, and a usb ion cue controller. Have been intrested in getting the mc6000 or a similar unit so i can get rid of the ion cue and the berry. My question with the mc6000 is with the channels can you add another laptop/cdj etc as back up as thats what i use.

You certainly can. It is a hardware mixer and a software mixer with 4 channels and the mixer is a matrix mixer meaning anything can be assigned to any channel.

I have a netbook with soundcard on 2 channels and the main playout laptop with VDJ using the internal soundcards on the other 2 channels on the MC6000.

The amps are actually sold, pending collection but the guy has not got back to me yet. They are a peavy 2600, and a Kam 1500

Am I missing something here? I thought the Laptop running throughthe 6000 was fixed to channels 2 and 3, and the auxiliaries had 1 and 4. :confused:

I think that the clue was "netbook with soundcard" running into the spare channels. I'm guessing the "Netbook with soundcard" has 2 pairs of stereo RCA jacks dangling off of it. (See laptops can have their uses...cable tidies :lol:)

Those RCAs then plug into channels 1 and 4 as any pairs or RCAs would plug into, eg: A pair of single tabletop CD-decks, a dual CD deck, a couple of DVD player audio outs...etc.

Look lads, I understood all of Gary's post. It's in effect exactly how we ran Twinspin's 6000. I may be a Dinosaur, but I can plug RCA's into sockets just fine.

The bit I don't understand is: Can you assign John's Sony Vaio to channels 1 and 2 and my Acer/Numark IO to channels 3 and 4?

The only way we could see was Acer 1 and 4, Vaio 2 and 3. This is a concept I have stated before that I struggle with. I don't want controls mixed up laterally, I want my p[layouts discrete, not jumbled.

Plug his Left chan into Aux 1 and right into Line one
Your Left into Line 2 and right to Aux 2
Then just set up the chanels accordingly Him on 1&2 you on 3&4
Trouble is you are not going to be able to control the software this way, which defeats the object of buying a 6000!

Changing the fader layouts so that a laptop routes its 2 decks through channels 1 & 2 instead of 2 & 3 has been done by way of a user editing their midi file. I recall they were in 4 deck mode (switch on rear of mc6000 on PC mix) they wanted deck A and B on mixer channels 1 & 2 and decks B & D on mixer channels 3 & 4. for two separate lappys however, you could route the audio/decks/channels any way you want but you'd only have midi control over 2 decks (from the same lappy). I know of no way of layer changing (switching) the midi control of the MC6000 seamlessly from say...the left lappy to the right lappy.

If you're using one lappy as main, and the other lappy as backup for when the main lappy goes Scuba diving in someone's beer, then you might have to default to using the backup lappy on its own on-screen controls for the remainder of the night, but with its audio still going through the MC6000.

As opposed to turning the channel selector on a DN500 mixer? That I'm conversant with. Editing midi files? Let's just say that's unlikely. About as unlikely as Lord Lucan riding Shergar to victory in next year's Grand National.

That sounds like a "Yes" to my original question. I'm assuming that in the scenario you describe above, the play buttons on the 6000 will control the lappy which is using the sound card inside the 6000, and the second laptop will be controlled in a different fashion. Is that correct? :confused:

The layout I can achieve and understand easily. Sadly, not the one I would wish to use, were I the proud possessor of a 6000.
