Kam KAV 1300 into setup!!!!

Hi Guys

Having just purchased a KAM KAV1300, (Thanks Scott (SJS)) for extra mics for karaoke to save carrying a large powered mixing desk around, I am not sure which way to wire into my system. My American DJ mixer has all 4 channels taken, which leaves the balanced mic input. Can I connect the KAV into that using a 2 into 1 XLR lead from the dual XLR out on back of KAV or........

As the KAV has a BGM channel is it better to plug my disco mixer through that and then dual XLR out from KAV to my XLR ins on my crossover.

having a quick google could you just use your mixer as normal and then run into the back panel left and right xlr inputs then out of the xlr outputs to your pa using the kav as an add on for extra mics?

Thats one of the ways I thought off, the only reason I was looking at other ways is as I have XLR outs on mixer, the audio in on the KAV is phonos so I would have to get adapters from XLR to phono, I still think this is the better way though.

or in that case could you run from the record out of your mixer into the audio in phono sockets on the kam this would give you a line level output from your mixer not affected by the master volume, then you can use the music level vol knob on the kam for your master?
this way all your volume would be on the same unit, mic vol and master vol right next to rech other rather than balancing your master with the audio in and the kams music vol :)

Yes the mixer has record out and booth which according to the manual http://adjmedia.s3-website-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/manuals/E_Q-SpandPRO.pdf can be used to connect to another mixer, guess that is going to be the best way, and just connect using xlr when not using karaoke

do you use all 4 channels on your mixer constantly? Could be an idea to share a channel, as i doubt you will be playing a CD at the same time as using the mics

The 4 channels are used for 2 channels for laptop main playout and 2 channels as backup playout all wired internally.
Have sorted it, have booth out going to BGM in on KAV and then XLR outs from KAV to crossover, if no karaoke have main XLR out on mixer straight to crossover, all mounted and boxed ready for the weekend.

dave i was just thinking whilst reading your last post,
do you use a mic from the mixer for your own use and the mic's on the kav for the karaoke?
because if so on some mixers the mic channel is not routed through the booth output so you may find that your mic dosent work so you might have to use the record output instead,

Yes I know what you mean but have tested and on this mixer everything comes through the booth output the same as main output, so I can have my mic through the mixer and karaoke mics through the KAV.

i find the mic normally pipes through the boost output, but not through the tape output

really im sure its the other way around so you dont get feed back through your monitors when using the mic though only some mixers do this, if it worked the other way around and you recorded a set and you were using the mic for an announcement surely it would go quiet on you recording :)

To be honest I have changed things around anyway, going straight from main outs on mixer to KAV1300 using XLR to phone adaptors and everything is okay, run it last night and absolutly perfect, just got to play with the different effect settings for the mics on it, although it sounded spot on last night.
