Taking things to an all time low

Went to my local asda and i saw this
so i thought only polite to place my business card next to it

I met a DJ at a Hallowe'en party. I asked him how much for a 40th birthday. He quoted £150!! Very basic set-up. 2 Mackies, 1 power-bar and a DESKTOP computer with screen and mouse running VDJ!!
There is a market for it.

This thread was initially removed, and I'm not sure I've done the right thing re-instating it. I've partly removed the guys contact number and disco name, but the whole thread leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It serves no other purpose than to be a source of 'ridicule/criticism/amusement'. And with the person not being a member here on the forum, and therefore no right of reply...well, it just doesn't sit right with me.

That said, this is just a heads up in advance if this thread suddenly disappears from view.

Boy, does that guy/gal need a few lessons in marketing ... he's at least £90 too expensive for ASDA shoppers :D I'd say he should try Sainsbury's at an absolute minimum ... possibly even M+S / Waitrose at those outrageous prices :beer1: Definitely wasted his 0.00000001p worth of biro ink there I'd say...

I fully understand reasons for removal my post was designed to show the levels that for want of a better description the lower end of dj market will go to. I'm not trying to knock or ridicule the person who placed the ad but purely trying to highlight the situation that dj's all over the land are trying to compete with.

I'm not knocking the price (this is not a price thread) purely the style and manner of advert would you book that someone from the ad displayed ?.

I use a custom built desktop machine with a mouse and keyboard running PCDJ. I dont see anything wrong with that.

If that price is what he is willing to work for then thats upto him.

Well if I was a Tescos over here it would be a member of staff taking it down cos they dont allow business adverts to be displayed on the boards.

I wouldn't have bothered putting my card next to it - several reasons:

Prospective client takes both numbers - they know the price of one already, that's set their expectations before they call you.

You really don't know who you might be annoying by blatantly putting your card next to theirs!

If I was the type of client that the cost was the overall deciding factor...then probably yes. Some people aren't looking for the best DJ, they just want someone to play some music at the cheapest price they can find. there's nothing wrong with that, and there's definitely a place in the market for DJs that want to cater to that market.

I must say I do not even look at anyone elses sites or advertising unless they are doing all the right things.
Then I invite them to lunch for a chat - At that point they get drowned in the solent :D

Maybe cleverer than you give them credit for, the less it looks like business advertising, the less chance of it drawing attention for removal ?

It could be that £150 is the basic fee just to raise interest. There could then be additional charges for smoke, laser, even lighting. You never know until you contact them. I could advertise 'Disco from £70' but that would be mid-week kids 2 hr disco before 6.00pm.
So £150 could be very reasonable.

I was thinking along the same lines, I've seen countless ads for laser eye surgery from £395 but I have yet to meet someone who has had laser eye surgery for less than £1500
