Just curious where everyone does there weekly shop. Asda, Sainsbury's Morrisons?

I've tried most of them but can't find one that I really like enough to get all my shopping from.

So my weekly shopping trip goes like this.

Marks & Spencer in Kirkcaldy, then onto Morrisons in Glenrothes, then onto Asda in Glenrothes. Then anything I need day to day I pop down to Sainsbury's in Leven.

I have a Co-Op Local within walking distance so either there, or if we need a big shop then Morrisons is a 2-3 min drive.

Sainsburys & Marks all the way for Mum and Dad prefer's Tesco because it's only round the corner.

Although, I was chatting to a lady on the bus the other day who told me she loves her food and will spend up to £200 a week at Sainsburys. One week her husband forced her to do a weekly shop at Aldi. She purchased the same items she does at Sainsburys and it came to £47. When she got home, she couldn't believe how good the food quality was. Needless to say, she hasn't been back to Sainsburys since!

I'm a bit of a food snob and like to know where it's come from. Aren't hygiene standards not as good in food factory's abroad?

OK here goes...

About once a month I take a trip to Lidl (about 5 miles away) and stock up on the bulkies such as bog rolls, tins of veggies and tomatoes, pasta, bottles of pop, flour, kitchen products and so on.

Once in a blue moon - probably about 3 times a year - I'll spring £3 on a Tesco.com delivery for those staples that we like but Lidl don't stock - particular cooking sauces, certain brands of things - and one-offs like light bulbs.

Pet food I buy online and have delivered.

Everything else we either grow or pick up locally. We have a dairy less than 200yds walk away and no less than 6 farm gate shops within a mile radius. Most days a dog walk results in a trip to one or other of these. We have enough hens to keep us in eggs. I grow about 70% of the veg we eat - usually only need to buy in spuds, cabbage and cauli plus out-of-season stuff like tomatoes. I also grow about 50% of the fruit we eat - usually buying in citrus.

Mostly Tesco local, for a "main" shop it's usually Tesco or Waitrose, sometimes Sainsburys or Morrisons, and every now and then Asda. Pretty much all depends on my movements and which is closer although I do prefer Tesco or Waitrose so tend to gravitate towards them :) It's only ever one at a time, though, your method sounds crazy!

I've never even been to a Waitrose (I don't think there's any in Fife). I think the waitrose 'new site evalation team' took a trip into Fife once, and about-turned!! :d

Tesco. I can't put my finger on it but it's my least favourite.

I think I've just got into a habit going around the three shops when I go shopping. There are certain things I like to buy from each, so I just make an afternoon of it..lol.

As Tesco seem to have taken over Derbyshire it's pretty much Tesco all the way.

To give you an idea on the A61 they have a Tesco Extra in Alfreton, another in Clay Cross (where I live), a Metro store just before you get into Chesterfield, another Metro store in the town centre and a Tesco Extra just by the football ground in Chesterfield :eek:

Personally I would shop at ASDA or Morrisons but nearest ASDA is Mansfield (12miles) and nearest Morrisons is in Chesterfield. When I lived in Liverpool it was ASDA all the time.

Sainos or Asda for me, Sainos is more expensive but there are less chavs and kids in there which makes it a nicer experience :)

We normally shop at Asda for the main groceries and veg and Home Bargains for the cat food and house stuff.

Usually Tesco for me as it's nearest at approx 1 mile away, plus I keep all the clubcard vouchers and use them at Christmas for the usual extras, Turkey, booze & chocs, we usually have around £40-£50 by the time Christmas comes around.

I also get £50 of Morissons vouchers from work as a Christmas bonus so nore booze from there - it's about 3 miles away.

Asda have recently taken over the local Netto's (next to Tesco) but it's just a small one so sometimes pop in there as it's easier to get parked than Tesco's.

Sometimes go to Sainsbury's if it's after 10:30pm (the time Tesco closes or if it's a Sunday as they're open til 11pm every night.

A new super duper Tesco opened just down the road so sometimes I'm dragged there, but mostly I'm dragged to Morrisons.

Morrisons usually, Sainsburys once a month on average, ASDA occasionally and Tesco rarely. Waitrose for bargains and Co-op for emergencies. ALDI for oddities. - I like to spread the love

Indeed. Although there are one or two homeless guys who like to hang around that area as well, so you are equally likey to bump into a jakey as into J K :D

We have an Asda, which I find much cheaper, but it's poxy - there is a big one about 8 miles away which I go to sometimes to see how the common people live...:bag:

1.7 miles to Asda and 1.3 to Sainsburys.

I also find, the more expensive the supermarket, the wider the aisles. In Waitrose, you can get 5 trollies across each aisle and in Asda, it's barely one! :lol:

Charlie, read the labels. Tesco sources meat from such places as Thailand, Poland, Spain and suchlike. Most of the meat in Aldi is British.

Darren, I'm flabbergasted and disgusted!! :eek: :( :( I expected Waitrose at a minimum, more likely Fortnum and Mason, and I wouldn't have been surprised by Harrods.

Jeanette works next door to a Co op, so nips in there for odds and ends, She passes Sainsburys on the way home, so often shops there, Tesco is at the moment the shop of choice because it's fairly local, and bigger. However: Recently an Aldi opened opposite Sainsburys, and Jeanette is beginning to see the light. Less costly, and usually comparable quality.

Sainsburys is like my second home....my Mum and brother work there, both my sisters and a number of cousins have worked there too...I get a wedge of vouchers from my day job which helps out loads, plus we save up the Nectar points, which we've saved a lot of this year, after everything being so expensive!

Well seen as the wife works at Asda and we get a 10% discount (20% for xmas shopping) we tend to stick to Asda

Depending on what I want & which direction I'm heading in (if killing 2 birds with one stone):

Waitrose, Sainsburys, Tesco, Morrisons.

& of course Fortnums deliver.

Well main food shop is tesco..They have just opened the biggest one in the uk 2 mile from me,Its huge it includes 2 cafes, pizza place,Hair and beauty and loads more stuff in there..They are building a even bigger one up North somewhere, should be finished middle 2012..
I also shop at Iceland a lot

I read an article recently about this very thing, and apparently, if we don't buy from Europe we'll be in big trouble as they won't buy from us. It seems so silly, the sort of thing you'd have trouble explaining to an inquisitive 5 year old :confused:

Big shop Sainsburys, for few bits and bobs I use Morrisons cause it's nearer. Just got back from Sainsburys, I bought 2 x 1L bottels of 'Famous Grouse' whiskey for just £13 each, takes some beating in my book, and an added bonus are wider aisles and less chavey customers.

Unfortunately, Morrisons more often than not. The quality of the fresh produce is woeful, but it's really conveniently located for me. If I'm passing, and I have the time, I shop at Sainsbury's.

Having said that, I hate supermarkets. I'd much rather visit a local baker, butcher, greengrocer etc. In fact, it was my new years resolution this year to never shop in a supermarket again...but I lasted about 5 days as my local high street is closed by 5pm!!

Sainos...

I've never heard anyone refer to Sainsbury's as "Sainos" anywhere but Leicester :)

Don't really do a weekly shop anymore, I just top up every couple of days from the local co-op, asda or tescos.

Asda or Tesco for most of it with the exception of.....(oh not most of it)

Fresh Meat from the local Butcher
Veg from the local Farmers market
Fish from the local fish vendor in the local town.
Bread from the Bakery at the end of my drive.

As I live in a small village & I believe in trying to keep the small towns and villages alive by giving my support.
The Butchers meat compared with the supermarkets always seems to cook better and taste better, the bacon remains at the same size when cooked unlike most supermarket bacon which starts off big the size of a slice of bread and ends up the size of a pea.
