Don't think this has been covered before.!

Just wondering if anyone has the same problem. As well as being my business, DJing is also my hobby. When I am at home, I tend to talk to my wife a bit (this might be an understatement!) about the disco and DJing.
I think she might be getting a bit fed up with it :)
Does anyone else have the same problem?

Does your wife/partner ever get fed up with you talking shop too much?

I am just interested.

That's the trouble, you can't have it all. My wife complains that I am out on a Saturday night. I keep telling her, monday night discos don't come along too often!!!!

I do get told to "change the record" after about 10 mins though.

I talk to the mrs about work, the interwebz, and my iPhone ! She gets fed up but I try to talk in a jokey way and dumb it down for her ! Thing is she is only interested in criminal minds (the series), tennis, :Censored::Censored::Censored::Censored:e B horror movies and mega shark vs the thing from the black lagoon type films or the paranormal so not really much in common. But if we liked the same things life would be boring, opposites attract and all that !

I used to have this problem before I went full time and treat this as more of a business / job than a hobby. I have always been career minded and luckily my wife has always taken an interest. Now things are no different to other careers I have been in where we talk about our day but also have a life outside of work.

When I first met my wife, I was DJing and doing a Quiz night 5, sometimes 6 days a week for my mate's business. I decided to calm things down a bit and got myself a full time job and DJ'd 3 times a week as I knew it was serious between us. Not once did she get fed up with the DJing. It's how we met in the first place. She appreciated the fact that I gave up a few nights to be with her and to be honest, it's what I wanted to do.

She doesn't get fed up with me doing it as a business and I don't get fed up with her running her business (wedding dress designer) as like Mike says, there are always stories to tell. We both know that neither of us want to do a 'normal' job and work for someone else again and that's all that matters.

My wife hates the Disco,She wants her cupboard space back and the bass bin out of the dining room.
She hates me going on about my work.
She is on good terms with the local British Legion tho,so a flag would be obtained and flown if I died tomorrow.

my (ex) wife never showed any interest in the discos, and very rarely came along to any of them. I was also working full time running a pc shop, so we never spent any time together. we split up 10 years ago.

my fiancee takes a big interest in the discos, and comes to the majority of them, we work together doing the gigs. i believe our relationship is all the stronger because we do work together.

My wife runs a business and I hear about it every single day - but strangely when I mention DJ equipment or music I feel I'm being humoured - and not listened to intently - luckily I have a good friend who I text and chat to who shares my interest in music and has just got back as a DJ.

I think women are generally more interested in people things - gossip, relationships, feelings, - and less in a new laser or the quality of my new reel of gaffa tape !

Mary was vastly interested from day 1. So much so she djs herself now. But talking shop is still not all we talk about far from it.

May work for some but it wouldnt work for me. I believe in keeping work and pleasure seperate. I think me and the mrs would soon fall out working together.
But to be fair she does show an interest in my work and is very supportive.

My partner became a "partner":) in the business a few months ago. She gets a small percentage of gig money which I give her when I come home from each event. She loves that part !!!!
I even trained her in setting up and doing a couple of karaoke gigs for me when I got double booked. She did very well despite the nerves.
She didn`t like giving up her shed which is now filled with my equipment.
Any time I`m looking at my "light porn", she always has a comment to make about why do I need new equipment etc.
Quick to say "bored already" anytime I talk about equipment but is always ready to help with a purchase if needed.
I couldn`t imagine, with the late nights,weekends taken up etc, doing this without her support. It would be a challenge and wouldn`t be worth the aggro.
She doesn`t even mind me coming in at 2am after a gig with my McDonalds and settling down to watch pre-recorded Match of The Day. :cool:
