What and when was the first twin deck DJ console ?

Just sitting here watching Quadrophenia and wondering what the first commercially available twin deck console was and what year it came out.

Saw one in a scene a few minutes ago but could only see it from the rear with two gooseneck lights sticking up. The size of it reminded me of an old TK Discosound console but who were the first to market ?

I always wanted a Haze Professional setup which were around in the late 70's but they seemed to vanish of the face of the earth and I cant find anything about them on t'internet !!!

I started on one of these back in 1973 but it was already "old".....

I forgot to mention that the amp I started with was a VOX AC30 Valve amp :)

In fact at the same time our local Mecca dance hall - Tiffanys had a "massive" sound system - 3 x 200W valve amps. Just a tad different to the 20k rig that was regularly used in there in the mid -late 80's !!!

The other thing to note from that pic is that it is the Mk2 so even that wasnt the first !!!!!

dont know how old this it, i bought it off ebay about 6 months ago.

works fine but needs new stylus and the sounds a bit crackley when i turn the volume control on deck 2

Are the decks Belt Drive ? they look like BRS BDS80 in which case it is much newer than the one I pictured with Garrard SP25 Mk2.

Noisy volume control probably just needs a squite of switch cleaner. :)

Indeed. I wish I still had it but it belonged to the Youth Club. I did pick up another AC30 but not in the orignal case. It was carried as my backup amp but I finally gave it to a guy at work who was in a band because it was of more use to him. If only I had know that eBay was but a decade away I would have kept it :D

Im sure it is belt driven, i did look back that was months ago and ive not been back to it since. I'll have alook when i get a moment.

They probably are newer than your one, as i say ive no idea of there age.

I think my first deck was the one DJ Dave posted above. I think we purchased our Fal System 50 from Disco Sales & Hire which I think was near Farnborough around 1973/4 but I'm rubbish with years and things!

I know the decks weren't Garrard and think they were probably BSR

Anybody else got pictures to post?

Dont recall seeing them using VOX but do remember a lot of WEM

Not definitive proof, but I too seem to remember piccies of Quo with a wall of the blighters behind them.

Maybe the WEM stuff was just from the BBC props department. Never seen them in concert so not sure.

Thinking about it, the bands on TOTP seemed to go through different phases of backline.... WEM, Orange, Peavey but I knew I had seen Quo with a stack of WEM behind them. :lol:

Status Quo are very much an 'image band' they use Vox AC30 amps built into Marshall 'heads' these days but used to use a whole stack of AC30's back in the 70's.

I mean, even Francis Rossi's Telecaster is basically a Stratocaster these days (look at the pick ups), he's had the original modified so many times it's unreal. I also know that he has lots or replica's made to look like the original battered green one (complete with the hole he drilled lol)
