Fixing drivers?

Hi i have a bass driver that has small cuts in the plastic bit on the top making it fart when its used.

I have previously gaffered it and it did the trick foe ages, but now it needs to be properly repaired. Can anyone point me towards some info or a product to fix it?

I think you can get glue for it?

I do not need a recone kit!

Its only the bit on the top.

It would not be much more to buy a new driver but I know that this one works well with the sub and is "broken in".
I will enquire today at getting it reconed but I do just think it needs a bit of proper glue.

I do not have the time or the experience recone it myself so will have to hire someone to do it.
I can however glue it.

Cheers sent an email. I might send it to them and get them to sort it.

I need it for an install so a Darren says it may be better to fix it rather than buying a new one?

I may buy an RCF sub driver as it would compliment my tops? What do you think?

Can't get better than Paul. I always go to him as he is local to me. What Paul doesn't know about speakers isn't worth knowing.

OK i have got hold of some cow gum which is a rubber adhesive so very flexible when dry.
I have sealed up all the cracks so far and am waiting for that to dry to seal half of the cone back on to the driver.

I must say its already going up and down and taking it nicely.

I am doing a full test tomorrow to see if it has worked. For £7 that would be one hell of a cheap fix.

Its a back up sub so not a massive priority as I have three. I will recone it if this does not work but I am certain it will.

It was a suggestion from a shop that no longer does recones.

She said they used to use rizla paper too but this seems to suffice.

Thats to bind the two edges together, sounds a sensible idea otherwise the bond may just break again.

Considering the amount of welly the cone is going to get:eek:

Worked a treat. In fact I would hasten to say it is actually bassier now :)

I am not an acoustic expert but the more rubbery seal may have an influence?
