Specific Cable (where to get?)

I'm looking for a couple of 5 pin dmx to jack cables. I've been quoted £40 for a single cable today, which seems a tad pricey!

Anyone know where I might be able to source such a cable?

Hi Peter. The cable I need is for my DMX controller. The controller has 2 in-built 'standalone' functions, which are basically 2 CA-8's built into the actual DMX controller. To use these in-built controllers with my lighting requires said cables. Funny how I can get a CA-8 for around 24 quid, but to purchase a cable to use instead of a CA-8 will cost me 40 quid...lol.

Don't get me started! It's a long story you don't want to know about, and I won't bore you to death with it.

Now I understand what you want, I may be able to offer another suggestion, I'll come back when I've found a few things out. My best suggestion now would be to just get a standard 5pin, or 5pin to 3pin DMX cable, and then a short adaptor to jack.

We're homing in on the answer. Look what I've found, all Shaun needs with these is a long 5 pin DMX cable. ( And possibly the one you linked to )

New thought, Stereo/TRS 1/4" jack lead. hack one end off, replace it with 5-pin XLR connector...job done?

If you use a 5pin to 3pin adaptor , as suggested previously, then it's three pin XLR to three pin TRS jack. Simples.

I'm meaning signal wise. If it's like a CA-8 then it's only three push buttons connected in such a way that it changes modes and doesn't transmit any kind of DMX meaning that it won't work. Unless I have missed the point totally and I'm sorry. :D

They are not dmx cables as such.

CPC again. Product av09148 is a jack to 3 pin xlr. IE it has a jack plug which you plug a 3 pin xlr cable into. You can then get a 3 pin to 5 pin adaptor too for either end.

I have not had a lot of time to look, but have a hoke through 'XLR adaptor' on CPC and you will find a whole range of bits that should allow proper DMX cable to be utilised. Just ask it to show you all results.

What da ya mean Australian DMX boxes. 5 pin is the standard that should be used but to keep costs down on the budget kit 3 pins used leading to loads of possible problems. :sj:

I think I see where you're coming from Callum, but as I understand it, Shaun effectively has two CA-8's built into his controller, so simply needs the cables to connect them to his fixtures.

Poor Shaun, all he wanted was a cheap cable, and here we are deep in confusion again. :daft: :D :D :D

i am assuming shaun has the isolution ilead controller, can't for the life of me understand why they had to put 5 pin xlr at the controller end when a jack socket to match the light fixtures would have seemed logical.

a reasonable lenth trs to trs lead chopped in the middle and a 5 pin exl fitted to each of the cut ends should do the job
