'Green' Disco

Alright guys,

A big concern for me lately has been energy efficiency, changing to energy saving light bulbs, when I built my latest PC I opted for an 80+ Gold rated Power Supply, when I'm driving I usually stick at 60mph instead of 70 to save petrol...

What I'm getting at is, does anyone consider themselves as a 'green' DJ? Many lighting effects are going LED and one comparison that is always made is that they use a fraction of the power over their halogen/discharge counterparts.

Do you think it could be used as a selling tool or benefit to some clients?

I can't see it being a selling point, no. I couldn't imagine anyone booking a disco on the basis of how much energy they save or suchlike. A disco only lasts for a few hours, and as it's usually in aid of a celebration, people are less concerned about energy usage.

Indeed. First started advertising these circa 2007/08 when affordable LED lighting first started appearing. Went the whole hog - electronic contracts, lightweight speakers, regularly serviced vehicles, silent disco option therefore no heavy PA - anything you can think of to be "green" went into the blurb.

A couple of people mentioned that it was a nice touch, but I don't think it ever swayed any decisions. Certainly no-one ever booked me because of the green credentials.

No harm in mentioning a few enviro-friendly buzzwords in your marketing but I don't think there's a sizeable market looking specifically for this.

If you are working for major corporates such as M&S who insist their supply chain adhere to their coporate responsibility statements on energy savings, etc, then maybe. Otherwise unlikely!

Another point - making more sales should not be the sole reason to go 'disco-green', and this thread could be used to share tips :)

For example, we all must have a larger than average amount of electronics to dispose of - not in landfill I hope?
