JBL Sound factor Range what do you think for the price

iv managed to get hold of a pair of JBL sf15 for only £140 only 2-3 year old and not a scratch on the them. I have done alot of reading up on them and found out alot of people are saying they are a rubbish speaker with a good name ''JBL''.

I was thinking i havent got alot of money saved up and wont likly to save up alot for a amazing pair of speakers so just wondering if it would be worth the money.

You guys might think there rubbish, but, i currently own a pair of yamaha
s15e's 250 watt 500 wat max speakers at the minute and they are quite old! so just wondering would i see a better difference in quality of sound coming out of the jbl's?

Look at getting newer speakers.
Technology and efficiency changes regularly.

RCF seems the best for the price but it depends on the budget.
The mackie thumps are the better cheaper ones by all accounts.

The JBL eon range is excellent. Its like Audi. you can get an A3, an A4 and then an A5. Each one increases on quality and price.

I would also look at weight vs max SPL and not RMS watts too but I am no expert.

One of my guys uses them and for £1,200 a cab they are worth it. :)
You can get three times the sound quality/volume/weight & space efficiency when compared to an older crappier cab off Ebay :p

Speaking of which I am selling a pair of Peavy PR 15's soon, which have a
max SPL of 130 (thats good) and I can pick them up with my little finger!!

well my friend has offered me a pair of his speakers, amp to go with it and speaker bags for £450 have a look at them they are mcgregor mytec 212's

The beginning of this year they were about £600 each they have really gone down in price now though, but even still, A very nice sound indeedy

I have the Mcregor pro15 subs and i love them. I think you have a steal for that price, But make sure you see them in action

First time that I have been on here in a while. Toby - I assume that you are talking about my JBLs. They are not the EON series, they are PRX612Ms. The price that I paid was just under £1600 for the pair including covers back in November 2010 when they had just been launched, so they might have come down in price since. They blow my old Mackie SRM450 Mk1s away but you would expect them to for the price.

Back to the original poster.... It is difficult to say what the speakers are worth, as they are a discontinued model. The nearest thing that JBL currently produce appears to be the JRX series which retail at around £200 a speaker for the 15" model and are more than likely to feature an improved design / components compared to the ones that you are looking at.

I would say go for it if you are not looking to spend a lot of money and they are still available. If they are better than the Yamaha speakers that you currently use, you can sell the Yamahas and gain yourself a really cheap set of speakers. If they are not any better, you could always sell the JBLs on again and I am sure that you will not make too much of a loss. You could even keep them lying around as back up if you wanted.
