VGA cable

I have a gig in my area that requires karaoke , I have my own monitor etc , but the venue would like the karaoke lyrics put through their own 42" screen , problem is , its 15 metres away , is is possible to run a VGA over that length , can you even get a cable that length ? , using the VGA out on the laptop.

You shouldn't get any loss over 15m and there are plenty of leads on Ebay.

As people have said, you shouldn't have any problems running the VGA signal over that kind of distance. You could even use VGA extension cables joined together if you can't get your hands on a cable long enough.

I tend not to use VGA cables but, instead, I use one of these:

The peculiar thing is, it just works!! It's plug and play - plugs in to your VGA-out socket and a USB port - and has worked for me on XP, Vista and now W7 machines. I've also got varying lengths of composite/RCA cables and joining connectors to make leads of the necessary lengths. Well worth the £50 price tag!

VGA will give you better quality than composite video (yellow RCA plug) but you are limited to around 40m.
If you need to go further just convert to cat5 cable and run up to 250m, then back to VGA.
Make sure any video cables don't run next to mains or speaker cables as they can then get interference.

If you need to run more than 1 VGA screen just get a VGA splitter and you can run as many as you need - we have several 8 way versions and some 4 way one too. Just ensure that they are the type that has its own power supply so they buffer the signal.
