Anyone got a macbook for sale?

My screen has given up on me. It kind of works but that is just not good enough as a work tool. Been a star for a few years but is now at the end of its working life with me.

Needs to be 2.4 Ghz or more with more than 2 gig ram and dual core.
...

Thanks :)

Have you not contacted apple? They may be able to repair it for far cheaper than replacing the whole computer.

Alternatively, get them to tell you what's wrong with it and fix it yourself. Parts are available all over the interwebs

External monitor ?

I kept a laptop running for several years with a bad screen just by using another monitor.

Doesn't using an external monitor negate the reason for it being a laptop in the first place? If you look around Toby you can pick up decent Aluminium MacBook's (not Pro's) from 2008/9 for around £400...good luck!

Only partially.

The main benefit I see in using a laptop is the fact that it has its own inbuilt UPS in the form of its battery thereby protecting you from mains glitches and sound limiters that cut the power.

Of course, as several members of the forum have recently admitted.... the inbuilt "UPS" has proven to be their downfall because they forgot to turn the mains power on in the first place

Toby, I've just had my 17" Macbook Pro screen repaired (Brand new screen) for £170, so that's a lot cheaper than buying a new MacBook.

Have noticed on the latest update of Traktor Pro that battery indicator on the screen flashes if you are not connected to mains power.

Minor, but really useful.

But it would get him by until he either replaces the screen or buy a new unit.

I will o that but I think its time to buy a new one as I have used this all day every day for three years. like a car when one thing goes wrong more are to follow and as this is my business machine I cant afford a failure.

I will fix and sell the old one to fund the new one. :)

Get a black clip on cover for about 30 quid. The apple logo still shines through but you protect your pride and joy from knocks etc

I see a concert on tele once where a guy was clearly using a macbook. But being the BBC, he had to gaffa tape over the logo on the cover because of advertising regs lol

Reminder: this is a 'wanted' thread and all this chat really is not fair to the OP. How would you feel if it was done to you when you were looking for something?

So....

Got one of them in the loft - good call.
Ali one is the way forward. I am using a 2 gig black one at the moment (back up) so will see how that handles tonight.
The other one works fine with a screen, must be a graphics card problem from when an idiot was spinning round on the floor and smashed into my gear giving it a good knock!
