what do you think of my new speaker and amp setup

hello guys

iv bought the mcgreggor mytek 210 at a bargain price off a good friend for 450 quid, i just need a amp to power the buggers. they are 650 watts per side so i have gone for used Kam KXR 1500 which blasts out 750 per side. i just havent got the funds for a really good one.

I know Kam KXR range are a budget but i know it can handle the watts of the speakers, i was just double checking that using this amp to power 4 speakers wont overheat the amp, do you guys know anything about the kxr amps.

let me know asap im buyin the amp today for my new years eve gig.

Quantity of speakers is irrelevant, rated power at a specified impedance is one of the things you should be looking at.

The Mytek 210 shows an impedance of 4 Ohm per side, so yes - That Kam amplifier would power the speakers comfortably.

Will it sound amazing? - Probably not, Like everything you only get what you pay for, the KAM amps are fairly cheap so sacrifices have probably been made somewhere along the line.

There's a lot more to consider than simply "how many watts is it"

That KAM amp is also 18kg! - It may be worth checking out the Peavey IPR range, they may be more expensive but it'll be a far better product, and most of the range weigh less than 4kg!

Also consider what warranty you'll be getting with the amp you choose

what about the used peavey pv 1500 at the same price would you say its well better than the kxr range?

Better, yes - But as I said in my text it would be under-powered for the Maytek system.

You'd have to step up to the PV 2600 which is a fantastic amp, a proper work-horse which would give you 900w/channel - but they're considerably more expensive.

I had the same model KAM for many years, and couldn't fault it. The PV2600 goes s/h for just over £200-£250 usually on Ebay, buit it's a heavy :Censored: !!

Its not always about having good speakers, if you have good speakers and then by a crap app they will sound rubbish! I would recommend a crown app. I have one of the kam apps which you posted and they are not very good, there very strong and reliable but sound terrible ;)
