Who's NOT working NYE ??

I don't know if it is just people I have spoke to, this area or in general but there seems to be a lot of DJ's not working this NYE - and also a lot of last minute cancellations. I have also noticed a lot lower fees than usual, especially when compared to normal fees charged.

So, I am off (then again rarely work NYE anyway) so who else, and any stories behind why you are off, or opinions on fees for NYE this year :sofa: ???

Were not out NYE either, especially when we work (as do other DJs) very antisocial times (late nights weekends etc), its nice to have an evening off with friends and family who also are off work etc.

Not working as retired ! Only got 2 dynamos (sold) & few other bits left anyway. Said to the mrs been nice just me & her doing what we want over Xmas & New Year. Worked the last 6 NYEs, so got wine, nibbles, champers & going to watch Alan Carr !

Just spoke to the missus and we've decided to stay in, then down to the in-laws the next afternoon. So it's going to be a quiet one for me.

Not working. Ours was cancelled in favour of getting a wedding instead. They got no wedding in the end so the venue is doing nothing too now.

Works for me as would rather not be out working. Turned two alternatives down following the cancellation. Rare NYE off, which will be nice.

Barn Dancing /Line Dancing has not been popular this year for NYE or that much previously--- and as I did an equivalent well paid Wedding gig on the 27th off to the Village Pub as usual to see in the New Year with wife, friends, relatives etc and laugh at the £50 Disco.

TBH the Pub might just as well play background music as most people are more interested in talking and drinking.

The NYE marketplace does not appear as busy as it used to be--unless you can combine it with a Wedding or Birthday.

Same here,
I've got 3 jocks not out NYE.
In all the years I've been doing this, I've never seen it so bad.

Ow well, looks like I'll be forced to stay in with the "other arf" :(

In all serious though, I think the marketplace has shrunk for the Pro jock and the "sids" are getting more work due to the undercutting.
I'm having a serious think about calling it a day, but keep the gear just in case.
I've got too many projects on the go for next year to worry about the disco tbh.

Actually someone said to me about the Sids, would you rather have one gig a month at €250/€300 or 8 at €50 ? if you think about it the total for the month is more doing the cheap gigs, but of course that makes you a bottom feeder ! I politely said would rather be paid what I think I'm worth !

Not working an no chance of me doing it now, will be spending the new year with my new baby boy, chloe, bradley and jo round at a friends house, so i expect a few drinks will be flowing and some sound and lights will be going lol

Just picked one up in Leicester of all places. Played in Lincs last NYE and drove back the same night. This time the hotel however are giving Mary and me a free room for the night. So no complaints from me

I'm down in London tonight, decided not to work. I'm going on a boat on the Thames with a free bar and in fancy dress with 35 other people. My girlfriend has a flat in central London so we are staying here which is a bonus!

got to agree with shaun, It's a horrible night to work, But there is a lot of places not prepared to pay daft fees anymore, as a former club and bar owner I can vouch for some crazy fees charged by people. but I can also vouch for the other guys and the girls that charge a going rate and are quite happy to make there wages throughout the year. we've all had good paydays and we still are well paid for our talents. I for one am really looking forward to seeing in the new year with the missus. happy new year everyone wherever you celebrate it

I have called the lady a few minutes ago who booked me for a social club and she said 'We have sold around 50 tickets but there may be more on the door, we hope. Are you turning up at around 8? Probably finish about 12.30 as usual.'
It is a £450 gig so I ain't complaining. Got 2 mates who are out for the same fee as well, one in a pub and the other in a social club with a band.
And there I was only a few weeks ago hoping to watch Jools Holland. Have to get the missus to record it 'cause I love his blues music.

I'm not working tonight, I was booked at a venue and whilst I had the booking I was turning other enquiries away, then at the start of December the venue that had booked me went bust and no other enquiries came in.

I have to agree though, there does seem to be less demand than usual for NYE parties around here.
