Composite TV signal problem

Come on then techy people, I have a problem that I can't seem to suss out. I am running a composite cable from an Alesis I/O dock to the composite input of a Sony Bravia TV and can get a signal, but it's in black and white and not great. I have tried changing the settings on the Ipad and on the TV but to no avail. It's not the cable as I tried it on a different TV and it was fine. Answers on a postcard please...

Simples, you don't know what your doing :D

Ok, seriously.

Try checking the frequency the dock is outputting the signal, as that could be wrong (it should be outputting at 50 or 60 hz for PAL) OR you made need one of these http://www.cables-leads.co.uk/s-video-4-pin-to-rca-composite-video-adapter/ if the output on the dock is s-video.

If I was local, I would have popped round and sorted it out for you :(

make sure tv is set to composite input and not component, as that would cause you to get a b&w picture.

Plug cable into Video 1 on the tv Then on the TV manually set the input type, press HOME, select Settings, then Channels & Inputs, then select Video/Component 1 Selection. Make sure it is not set to be a component input, and that video / composite is selected.

There are a couple of reasons why you could be getting a BW picture.
1) The ouput of the IO dock is NTSC and the TV is PAL
2) The input you are using on the TV is one of the compoent video input (normall identified as red Green and Blue connectors)
3) The input you are using on the TC is set to YC input.

The frequency will not cause this problem

The reason that you see it in BW is that the TV thinks it is only the luminace part of the picture and is expected colour on the others.

Correct - having looked closer!

I have solved the problem now by using an old scart adapter on AV1 and it's working fine. This is only so my daughter can play Youtube karaoke through the TV connected to the dock and a sound system. (and the electronic drum kit) :D
