My first NYE

My first NYE, a masquerade ball , black tie fundraising event for 120 people.
Set up for 8pm, sit down meal, music started just after 10pm played till 2am
Rocking from the off, great night.
I appear to be another one who saved moves like jagger for after the traditional Auld Lang Syne.

I don't think there's too much wrong with the playlist, experienced or not, I'm sure we'd all do things slightly differently (Thank God) but there is no right or wrong, just what happens to suit the people in front of you, who, as Roger said liked what he was doing. I know the venue and the crowd quite well, they can be a difficult bunch, he did well to keep them happy!

Wise words. And something we should all take in to account from time to time. It's not about us as DJs, it's about the enjoyment of the crowd especially on such a key night as NYE.

Agreed. But only if they are requested and even then I question the integrity of the request!

I really don't see a place for these type of records are a normal party .... but .... thinking about it, perhaps there is a market for themed nights, Cheese Fest. It would need to be bad taste fancy dress with bad taste music to suit (and lots of achohol!)???

Why not? I've spent 23 years in this game doing just that.

The clients wishes always come first, but I don't believe there's a DJ on this forum who's music selection in some part isn't based on their own personal preference in playing what they think will work. Its what gives us all our individuallity and creativity. What I like and what I think works plays a big part in my performance.

It does with me. My websites are focussed on particular genres and styles to attract clients who want what I do.

That's certainly true. It's not just the music. It's the costumes, the atmosphere, the water pistols and the rice thrown at the wedding at the start!! :D :D

But it's the dance that people want to do at parties and it's the Damien version of the dance that most people know. The RHS dance is very different and you can always spot the true RHS followers on the dancefloor!

Understood. :) I'd never refuse to play a song either, but there are instances where I wouldn't select to play certain songs off my own back. I'm a very request driven DJ. Song request cards are a main staple of my gigs so I do play a helluva lot of stuff that I don't particularly like personally. That aside, whenever I'm not playing requests I like to try not play the same old tired tunes that are synonymous with the stereotypical Peter Kay type DJ image. People have such a cheesy perception of DJs and I think I kick against it a bit. I was having a laugh with the dentist today (as you do) and told her I was a DJ. First 2 questions were 'do you play come on Eileen', second was 'do you say 'shabba '

People see DJs as a bit of a joke really and of course I see the fun side but living up to that reputation does us no favours and it's just not me. I think of myself as a 'modern take on the classic DJ' lol :D

This is the first time I have ever played the time warp!!
It was for a request and as we were all in party mood.......Why not play a bit of Cheeeese.

Personally what a terrible tune but......its what the punters wanted and fitted into the running order well.
